Guess it's a good thing I forgot it was Bunker Hill Day

First, Happy BH Day, everybody! Yay! What are your plans for today?

The holiday this year coincides with our regular trash pickup day. Normally, when a holiday falls on a Wednesday, we know to put our trash and recyclables out on Thursday. But I guess there are advantages to being half asleep and forgetting it's a holiday and doing your usual trash-day routine, since the recycling truck just came by and emptied our bin. Maybe it's because the guys who man the truck work for a private company and not the city?

Tree thief on the loose in Dorchester

A Cedar Grove resident tells Dottie Hottie that somebody stole the three potted plumeria trees he'd put in his front yard at Milton and Milwood streets because neighbors loved the scent of the tropical flowers:

... This evening, June 16th, as I was sitting in my living room, a person in a dirty grey Chevy pickup stopped next to my house and quickly stole the 3 Plumeria trees from the yard. I got out of the house as quickly as I could, and tried to chase the scum down the street (in my stocking feet), but didn't manage to get a liscene plate number. He took a left onto Adams St., toward the Village, and took over 20 years of memories with him. ...

In a world turned upside down, Boston ranked a courteous city for drivers

I know, I know: What?!? The Boston Business Journal reports that some survey found that not only is Boston not in a list of the top ten rudest cities for driving, it's actually ninth on a list of the top ten most courteous cities for driving. Compare to the 2008 survey, which found us second only to Miami in road raginess.

Via Todd Randolph, who demands a recount.

Company that left a giant hole where Filene's Basement used to be will help buy Filene's Basement

And then promptly kill off the Downtown Crossing store forever so it can rent it to somebody more lucrative, the Herald reports. Vornado teamed up with Syms on what is now apparently the winning bid for the frail Filene's Basement.
