Why Tom Menino deserves four more years

Ross Levanto explains why he'll be filling in an oval for Tom Menino again this fall:

... I am supporting the Mayor because I really do not have much to complain about. I have attempted to contribute to my neighborhood over the past several years to clean the streets, provide my input on an agreement with a local university, and to debate the merits of additional liquor licenses. I played a minor role with my neighbors creating a new program to replace and prune trees, I assisted with the transition to new trash pick-up schedules, and I participated in neighborhood "welcome wagons" to greet new neighbors in September. Each and every step of the way, I felt as though Mayor Menino acted in concert with the interests of the city and supported my efforts. ...

Still, he lists challenges he thinks the mayor needs to deal with, including education, payments in lieu of taxes and getting Boston ready for the future.

Celtics lied, but nobody died

So the Celtics were "Belichickian" about the nature of Garnett's injury. Does it matter? Celtics Blog says yes, they misled the fans, Red's Army says no, the team doesn't owe fans detailed medical reports. Both agree Grousbeck should stop besmirching Bill Belichick.

Flaherty: Antiques have their place, just not in the mayor's office

Good. Better.

Seeming to acknowledge that a lot of those 300,000 Bostonians who've met Tom Menino actually like him, would-be replacement Michael Flaherty has come up with a new campaign theme:

Times change. You're probably not driving the same car you owned in 1993. Maybe you've changed jobs too. Upgraded your computer a few times. And you probably tackle problems differently than you did 16 years ago. Learned from experience. Trial and error, and all that. ...

Now, if Sam Yoon or Kevin McCrea wanted to be wise guys, they could finish Flaherty's slogan:

Good. Better. Best.

Southeast Asian street food in the South End

Richard Auffrey much enjoyed the food at Myers and Chang:

... After my initial visit, which went very well, I returned again yesterday afternoon for lunch, to try some more dishes. That second visit was as pleasing as the first time. There will certainly be a third visit, and a fourth, fifth, etc. ...

The diagnosis

Tammy Donroe, who normally writes about food, reports she's been diagnosed with breast cancer:

... I've struggled with whether or not to bring this up on the blog. This is a food blog, after all, not a cancer blog. And I don't want this to become a cancer blog (not that there's anything wrong with that). But this blog is about my life through food, and if I censor my life too much, then it doesn't feel honest. Plus, logistically speaking, it was going to be tricky to hide it. Sooner or later you were going to wonder why all of my dinners of late have been composed of 50% potato chips and 50% tequila. The increased unexplained absences might seem suspicious given my previously consistent blogging schedule. And the mood swings. My god, the mood swings. PMS is dreadfully boring by comparison. ...
