A man was shot in the chest around 8:25 p.m. outside 120 Southern Ave. Boston Police report the man, in his 20s, was transported to a local hospital, where he died.

Christmas wrapping and cocaine

A Randolph man was arrested for cocaine trafficking in Dorchester yesterday after authorities say they intercepted a UPS package for him bearing more than 200 grams of Colombian cocaine wrapped in Christmas paper.

Nonson Obiora, 27, was arrested yesterday afternoon at a Dorchester house after he arrived to pick up the package, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports. Read more.

Two Vietnamese restaurants on Dorchester Avenue that don't have liquor licenses face possible sanctions after police found patrons drinking beer out of tea cups last month.

Tomorrow, meanwhile, the City Council could vote on a proposal by Councilors Michelle Wu and Steve Murphy to let small restaurants in neighborhoods such as Dorchester legally let their customers bring in their own beer and wine. BYOB is currently illegal in Boston. Read more.

Boston Police report Anthony Sinclair, 28, was stabbed around 12:30 a.m. at 5 Nightingale St. He was taken to Boston Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Valerie Cirilo-Perez, 25, was charged with murder. She is scheduled for arraignment in Dorchester Municipal Court today.

Boston Police report a man who had been deported from the US was arrested in Fields Corner yesterday on various gun and drug charges.

Michael Mejia, 34, was arrested around 11:30 a.m. at 276 Adams St. as part of an investigation into drug dealing at that address, police say. Read more.

The Supreme Judicial Court ruled today a jury improperly convicted a Lynn man of second-degree murder for a robbery gone bad in Dorchester in which the man's pal wound up getting shot to death by the person he was trying to rob. Read more.

The Globe reports that Joseph Amoroso, the biological father of Bella Bond, was arrested at the South Bay Home Depot today on shoplifting charges after he allegedly tried walking out with, among other things, two pairs of fingerless gloves.

Machine gun allegedly stolen from Worcester armory

Feds say this photo was taken from suspect's phone; shows stolen weapons in her home.

Ashley Bigsbee, 26, was charged with possession of one of the machine guns stolen from a Worcester armory last month after investigators found photos on her phone of the weapon in her Page Street home - and after the man charged with the burglary implicated her - according to federal officials. Boston Police report the arrest of two men at a party at 42 Norton St. in Dorchester early Sunday - one for illegal possession of a firearm, one for trying to incite the crowd to whip out their phones and start recording the officers.

Fernando Owens: Wanted

Plymouth County officials have issued an APB for Fernando Owens, 43, of Dorchester, on charges he murdered a New Jersey woman and set her body on fire because he apparently thought she had something to do with the murder of his son Dominic, shot to death on Shepton Street in Dorchester on Nov. 3. Two Virginia residents who recruited bogus buyers in Michael David Scott's scheme to defraud banks in Dorchester and Roxbury condo deals have each been sentenced to two years in federal prison.

Jerrold Fowler, 31, and Thursa Raetz, 40, pleaded guilty to their roles in the scheme earlier this year; they were sentenced last week in US District Court in Boston. Read more.

An East Boston man had bail set at $2,500 today on charges related to the loaded gun and "high-capacity feeding device" police say they found in the trunk of his car after a traffic stop early Saturday in Dorchester.

At his arraignment today, Anthony Bailey's attorney, however, said the gun wasn't Bailey's - and couldn't be, because he can't see. "This man couldn't possibly use it," attorney Marcy Levington said, as her client, wearing dark sunglasses and holding a cane, stood in the prisoner's dock. Read more.

A Dorchester man was arraigned today on changes he posed as a woman online to lure men to what they thought were romantic assignations but were actually robbery setups.

Rakeem Austin, 30, had bail set at $75,000 on six counts each of armed robbery, assault with a dangerous weapon, and threats to commit a crime, but had his bail on six outstanding cases in two counties revoked. Read more.
