The Boston Licensing Board today ordered Jerry Remy's on Boylston Street to shut for a day as punishment for an incident in which a worker helped somebody under 21 get a draft Coors Light.

Unfortunately for Remy's, a Boston Police detective was conducting an unscheduled inspection and noticed the young-faced patron - two months after a similar incident in which pretty much the same thing happened.

In both cases, the bartender didn't ask for ID after the worker vouched for the customer, police said.

UPDATE: One-day suspension ordered.

Officials from Jerry Remy's Sports Bar and Grille told the Boston Licensing Board today they're cracking down on employees after getting cited for the second time in two months for underage patrons getting drinks because they were friends with workers at the Fenway restaurant.

An incident on June 17, in which BPD detectives on a routine inspection found somebody with a drink who shouldn't have had one mirrored a similar occurrence on April 4 at the Boylston Street outlet.

The Cask 'n Flagon will have to shut for two days due to a closing-time brawl that left one man pouring blood from the back of his head and a bouncer lucky his finger wasn't bitten clear off.

The Boston Licensing Board ordered the penalty last week for a May 22 incident sparked by a hothead being pushed out of the bar after being ejected earlier in the evening and a woman who had no connection to him who decided to give bouncers a piece of her mind.

Police, a patron and bar employees gave differing explanations today for how a Cask 'n Flagon customer wound up unconscious on the sidewalk, blood pouring out of the back of his head, at closing time on May 22.

At a Boston Licensing Board hearing, however, all agreed the action started with a man being ejected from the bar for the second time that night and a woman who had nothing to do with him who loudly objected to his treatment.

Boston Magazine reports somebody went around the outside of the MFA spray painting bad renditions of Homer Simpson - including on the base of "Appeal to the Great Spirit" on Huntington Avenue.

Ed. question: Anybody notice the explosion of graffiti along the Orange Line from Forest Hills to just past Back Bay over the last few months?

Any bars around Fenway open early on Saturdays? I'm talking like 9:30/10. Alcohol service is required.

Beacon Street between Audubon Circle and Kenmore Square was shut to both vehicles and pedestrians for about 30 minutes this afternoon so police could examine a Budget truck that was parked on the bridge over the turnpike without any license plates. After examining the truck and determining there was nothing threatening, police re-opened the street around 3 p.m.

Half naked Santa Claus in the Fenway

Stuck in the cluster that is the Muddy River work in front of Landmark Center today, roving UHub photographer Brian had plenty of time to observe Half Naked Santa Guy, who has been jauntily jaunting about the Boston area for years now, at least, in warmer weather.

An arbitrator recently ruled that an MBTA bus driver kept telling such dramatically different stories about how her bus came to hit a BTD supervisor and several parked cars in Kenmore Square that the T was within its rights to fire her.

The T fired Lataria Milton not long after the Aug. 9, 2012 incident, in which Milton's bus hit the supervisor and the cars after, police said at the time, the supervisor had told Milton to move it because it was blocking a turn lane in the busy square.

The Globe explains the Verb, the replacement for the Fenway Howard Johnson's that is an homage to the Boston rock scene, circa 1975.

For $200 a night, guests will get to stay in rooms decorated with old Phoenix covers (contributed by Stephen Mindich himself):

They’ll also see a grittier Fenway/Kenmore area, a place where Burger King and the Pizza Pad were considered gourmet restaurants, and punks and Sox fans sometimes brawled on the sidewalks.

Oh, the name comes from "reverb."

A man who spent a night in lockup after an incident involving a police detective outside Symphony Hall is suing both the detective and the city, which he says had known for years the cop had issues but failed to address them.

In his lawsuit, filed last week in US District Court in Boston, Sean Anderson charges he had just pulled over to let an ambulance go by on Mass. Ave. on the afternoon of Dec. 21, 2012, when he heard a loud bang from his trunk and saw what he thought was a security guard in a fluorescent green vest going around his car in the rear:

A health inspector shut Church, 69 Kilmarnock St., on Thursday until it can get its hot water back on, at least on a more consistent basis:

The establishment has been operating without hot water for a few days. The plumber was called to repair the issue and they thought it was fixed but the establishment has continued to operate without consistent hot water.

But they don't run into abutments and go "ow!" OK, not much of a joke.

Around 11:45 p.m. yesterday, KiloWhisky reports, a bus driver decided that "CARS ONLY" sign obviously didn't refer to him and tried to get on Storrow Drive inbound at Fenway. He didn't get far before realizing the error of his ways. The ramp was closed while State Police helped guide him backwards.
