We learn that from the city's response to a citizen complaint about a potted-plant space saver in Charlestown.

The local National Weather Service says we could get some snow this weekend - and then several days of frigid temperatures:

WHILE TODAY IS VALENTINES DAY...CERTAINLY THIS NEWS WON'T WARM THE HEART.

Declares all parking meters free on Valentine's Day:

Whether you’re showering yourself, a friend or a special someone with love this Valentine’s Day, we want to make it as easy as possible for residents and visitors to spend some time and money at Boston businesses and restaurants tomorrow. Get out there and share the love!

Ed. note: Hmm, what about those of us who frequent business districts without meters? Will meter maids go around handing out quarters?

EVEN THOUGH, TECHNICALLY, LOGAN ONLY HAD 35+ WINDS FOR TWO STRAIGHT HOURS:

BLIZZARD CONDITIONS WERE REACHED AT MANY LOCATIONS ACROSS SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND DURING THE STORM ON FEBRUARY 8 AND 9. THUS IT IS SAFE TO CALL THIS THE BLIZZARD OF 2013 FOR SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND. CERTAINLY PUBLIC PERCEPTION OF THIS EVENT WAS THAT IT WAS MOST DEFINITELY A BLIZZARD.

But for now, Boston Public School students can rejoice: No school on Tuesday.

The folks at the Boston City Archives wonder if you know where and when this was taken. See it larger.

For the February 8th Blizzard of 2013, Boston, MA I ventured out of my apartment around 6pm to wander the streets of Boston and take some photos of the storm, here's what I found going on in the city that night.

A train died on each line, a suspicious package showed up on the platform at JFK/UMass, there was a medical emergency at Kendall, commuter rail had snow issues, but, yes, the trains ran (except the Mattapan Line, which was replaced by a bus).

Mayor Menino says the city's heard growing cries from snowlocked residents of unplowed side streets: It's managed to find extra equipment to clear roads:

Our number one priority today is getting to the side streets. Residents have been very patient as we work to recover from the fifth largest snow storm to ever hit the City of Boston. We are doing everything we can to get additional pieces of equipment into residential areas, including coordinating with MEMA to get federal and state resources. As our crews work, I'm urging drivers to continue to stay off the roads.

Boston Public Schools are shut. All extracurricular and sporting events canceled as well. The city is opening community centers in Hyde Park, Jamaica Plain, East Boston and Mission Hill for parents who aren't as lucky as their kids to drop them off for the day.

Mike Wankum tweets:

But was it a blizzard? @NWSBoston will be going over the observations this week to determine if it was an"official" blizzard.

Maybe the same person who thought it would be a good idea to have Williams and Lisa Hughes anchor the news while standing outside in the station parking lot. Williams, being a man's man, of course, just stood there without a hat. They finally got him back inside, and by the looks of things just in time - his face was bright red.

"a totally clueless action by the media."

As has been well reported by several news outlets (and on this blog), a total travel ban is now currently in effect in Massachusetts. Yet, at least one of the local stations is continuing to broadcast traffic reports.
