A Plea For Justice For Susan Taraskiewicz

State Police and the Suffolk County District Attorney's office today released an interview with Marlene Taraskiewicz, whose daughter Susan was murdered in September, 1992.

In the interview, Traskiewicz pleads for anybody with information to contact State Police, but adds:

We've been here 22 years. I am a very healthy woman and I am not going away. You're going to look over your shoulder until the day that I go, but I will get you, and I will get justice for my Susan.

State Police add:

A 61-year-old Frenchman found himself a guest of our justice system and Mass. General Hospital today after he grew très furieux when a woman in front of him reclined her seat on their flight from Miami to Paris, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

The American Airlines flight landed at Logan, where State Police charged Edmund Alexandre with interfering with a flight crew. They eventually took him to Mass. General for treatment of a pre-existing condition.

According to the DA's office, Alexandre just wouldn't shut up about the reclining seat:

An American Airlines flight on its way from Miami to Paris made an unscheduled stop at Logan last night to drop off a French guy who, according to State Police, got très unruly en route and had to be subdued by a federal air marshal.

Edmund Alexandre, 50, of Paris, was taken off Flight 62 and handed over to State Police around 10 p.m. for booking on a charge of interfering with a flight crew. He could be arraigned today in East Boston District Court; however, he was transported to Mass. General for observation and treatment of a pre-existing medical condition, police say.

Innocent, etc.

Swissport International Ltd., which provides ground services at Logan Airport, has an ad on Craigslist for people looking for jobs de-icing airplanes in cold weather.

Headlined "Hardcore Gamer? We may have a job for you at Boson [sic] Logan Airport," the ad says de-icing airplanes requires the same skills as mastering a video game:

See it larger (and check out the wing tip on the Southwest plane).

Melissa Desingco looked out the terminal window at Logan to see a Southwest plane getting way too into the personal space of a JetBlue plane that was scheduled to be headed to Chicago this morning.

The state Department of Public Health today released a study of people living around Logan Airport:

Among children, study results identified some respiratory effects indicative of undiagnosed asthma (i.e., probable asthma); children in the high exposure area were estimated to have three to four times the likelihood of this respiratory outcome compared with children in the low exposure area.

Among adult residents, individuals diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) were statistically significantly more likely to have lived in the high exposure area for three or more years.

The study found no increased cardiovascular issues or hearing loss.

Andrew Zimmern, yes, the weird-food guy, reports he was pretty freaked out shortly before 11 a.m. when he looked out the window of the Delta terminal and saw a plane spewing flames and smoke out on the tarmac.

Am I alone seeing a plane on fire on Tarmac at Logan in Boston? Lots of lights and responding vehicles and a blackened hull spewing flames

First Emirates Airline flight arrives in Boston

Commercial jets arriving at Logan don't usually get greeted by three helicopters and a smaller plane flying a banner, but Logan allowed an exception for the first Emirates Airline flight into Boston this afternoon.

That's the airline that redecorated the inside of Red Line trains in red.

After the plane landed and dried off and taxied a bit more, the pilot whipped out a Massachusetts flag for the occasion, as Dan Santry shows us:

JetBlue reports it's sharply cutting back service at Logan - and the three New York airports - until 10 a.m. tomorrow in the hopes of giving flight crews time to rest and ground crews times to service planes:

At that time, we’ll gradually ramp up again – we intend to be 100% operational by 3 p.m. ET on Tuesday.

The airline says it was hit by the same storm-related issues as most other airlines, compounded by cascading demands for remaining flights by people trying to get home after winter breaks.

Massport officials at Logan Airport have just announced that the airport will be closed to planes beginning at 8 PM tonight (2-Jan) and lasting until noon tomorrow (3-Jan) due to the blizzard conditions expected overnight.

Multiple airlines are already waiving flight change fees in order to allow customers to fly today instead of tomorrow. People are being asked to contact their airlines directly to determine if the closure effects their flights.
