Cell moves in

At Millennium Park, around 5 p.m. Just as the cell was getting going, a soccer team showed up, at what is the highest point around, and began practicing. I suggested to one of the adults that might not be the smartest thing - lightning was already starting. But only a downpour got them off, apparently they were more concerned about getting wet than becoming human lightning rods. And as soon as they left, some dog walkers showed up - and began walking their pets. Sheesh!

Things got awfully scary for a couple minutes, but it calmed down in a hurry.

It was a whole lot of nothing in Melrose — it got dark and rained for about 20 minutes, but quickly turned to this: http://twitpic.com/1zmuod ... a couple of tree limbs down, one on a car, but nothing really major.

It gets worse-- I saw a blogger up there with a little metal box in his hand!

But yeah, I seem to have this desire to watch awful weather from the top of Millennium Park.

My excuses:

I was doing it for science.
I didn't stray far from my car and took refuge in it.

There's a storm outside and the gap between clap and thunder,
clap and thunder is closing in, is closing in

On a high hill stands a blogger, camera held high ...
Calling "COME ON THUNDER, COME ON THUNDER".

In a few days, I'll be heading out to Tornado Alley to join what has become an annual storm chase vacation tour. Little did I imagine that we'd be seeing warnings for possible tornadoes and extreme weather here.

hmm, questioning the wisdom of playing in an open field in a rather high spot during a thunder and lightening storm...hmm...
