Who writes the BPD tweets? Some (armed) 13 year old girl they hired for media relations? FFS, use as many tweets as you need, but please don't use l33t speak unless you live in your mom's basement.

Here's a translation into responsible-sounding grownup:

We look forward to working with you to ensure a peaceful event in a manner which respects your right to protest and also maintains safety.

From the comments on FB:

[...]it is not killing you. You just choose not to call in sick at work.

Democracy and Freedom aren't free.

This goes out to everyone....Stop being afraid. Stop allowing the rich control you.

To say you can't attend because of work is saying you are a slave to your job.

Chances that this kid has turned down unemployment insurance? (Though, with that attitude, he probably was fired from his last job?)

Corollary question; has he ever heard of the voting booth?

Ah, to be young, idealistic, naive, and stupid again. :)

Look who showed up to protest today on Wall Street in New York City, the original #Occupy protest:

United/Continental Pilots

Uniformed pilots, more than 500 at least, gathered in a pre-arranged area near the Stock Exchange for about 10 minutes. No long speech, mostly a photo-op, then they headed back out of the Broad/Wall Street area.

There may have been picketing for most of the lunch hour till about 4ish. I saw pilots walking through the Financial District before noon...

More pictures at the Denver Post.

In the NY Metro paper today.

The pilots were there on completely different business. As someone who once had to work down there on non-financial matters, I can tell you protests like the pilot protest were not out of the ordinary. Was an airline exec ringing the bell today?

I was refering specifically to the kid I quoted. But If you really want me to get started on what I think about unions... ;)

No calls for increased taxes on the rich, no calls for taxes on CEO bonuses over $1 million, no calls for those taxes to pay for education or health care or any program that would help.

It takes a lot to make hippies look organized. Good job.

Say all you want about flannel and hoodies, but generations of my family who work outdoors have worn those kinds of jackets and shirts for decades. It can be a fashion statement, but a solidly economical and practical choice as well.
