No dire budget projections for Boston this year

In fact, things are almost looking sort of rosy, thanks to a reduction in health-care costs and an expected jump in revenue, the Globe reports. In fact, the city's looking to hire new firefighters, cops and teachers, the Herald reports.

You have a windfall ($26 million in savings on healthcare which most likely won't be repeated)

You hire over 200 new people with that money

When that money runs out you say you are broke and then try to convince people you need new revenue streams

When you don't get new revenue streams because you've sucked them all dry, you let over 200 or more people go - and nobody notices - and then distribute their salaries and bennies to everybody else so that their pay packages increase at double the rate of inflation, all the while you tax to the max.

Eventually that money gets used up and if you don't have a windfall, you dip into your rainy day funds (which are ample)

However, someday there are no new revenue streams, there are no more rainy day funds and you have a big bill for pensions and retiree health care and you go broke.

Don't spend your windfall on new employees. Pay down your debts - present and future!

Why are they hiring teachers when the city is shrinking the size of BPS due to fewer students?

Does this mean we can have our mounted police unit back? Or maybe make it so that we are funding our parks department less than the city of Detroit?
