By adamg on Mon, 05/04/2015 - 12:11pm
CyPhy of Danvers, started by the co-founder of the equally local iRobot, today launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise $250,000 for making drones it swears any idiot with a smartphone can fly.

Oh, joy
...and they will.
Awesome
Our local citizenry isn't already shitty enough at negotiating a vehicle in two dimensions, now as a pedestrian I have to worry about death from above.
If
If the type of drone that can be used via the smartphone app could kill you, you're probably already at death's door. Or you're the size of an insect.
It's not my life I fear for
I am thinking of yesterday, taking in the cherry blossoms at the Arboretum. It's bad enough that that end of the AA is blanketed by the rumbling of the Annie Dookhan Laboratory next door. Imagine if each of the many people taking pictures of the trees and themselves had launched a buzzing drone to get an overhead shot, too.
The horror! the horror!
I see no possible downside to this plan

21st Century
I think everyone needs to relax with all of these technology proposals. Technology (although good in many ways) is significantly hurting our society and the way people interact in probably more ways than it is helping it.
The kids today!
All they do is Twitter on the Facebooks about their rock-and-roll "music" and blue jeans!
Okay
Now please chisel this into a stone tablet instead of using a computer and the internet. I heard there are some textile mills that you could burn down in the meantime, King Ludd.
did I get this wrong?
I always associated kickstarter with relatively good good ideers.
and I thought it was for
people who need money to fund projects that traditional funding won't touch.
But I guess it's for millionaires to raise more money now? Maybe the CEO didn't have enough left over after spending $3.7 million on a Beverly mansion which she then tore down

Later today I will be announcing a Kickstarter for
technology that will ensure iRobot's drones-for-idiots technology does not come to fruition.
Already invented
It's called a shotgun.
