UPDATE: Mother's boyfriend charged.

WCVB reports the girl was from Boston - where the arrest was made.

.... that the large team of professionals who have been investigating this case and who have brought the indictments, may have more information than you do?

Bella's disappearance was so publicized. Anyone with at least an ounce of humanity has become invested in her death and the details that surround it.

So it's natural that people will have questions about what happened. And it's natural that people will wonder if the police (and media and the public) are on the right path.

You wrote about have respect further up the thread. I don't think that (most) people are posting what they post on here out of disrespect. I think that Bella's story has made many people feel very sad and a little helpless, and their questions are an attempt to try to connect with others and regain a small sense of control.

That's my 2¢.

Well then, that's as good as murder.

Yelling =/= abuse. Talking in a quiet voice =/= loving.

Could we please, please prevent these people from bringing more innocents into this world?
Pay the drug users money to have their tubes (vas deferens and fallopian) tied.

Make it voluntary so that we don't violate their precious civil rights. I'd gladly donate if someone would start this charity. (I'd be happier to take the Dexter route and just clamp these people to a table... but that's just the rage speaking.)

This poor baby had a right to live and to be happy. Yet, I wonder, what if she had lived? She would have had to endure years more of sadness and horrific abuse. Does anyone doubt that she would have been further physically and sexually assaulted by her mother's male companions?

Agencies, cops, family and neighbors can only do so much. It would be better to prevent the problem by encouraging known drug users not to have children.

I walked out to the checkout isle just as the mom was yelling at the little girl to come back. The girl laughed gleefully and turned the corner around the front of the checkout line. I immediately laughed with her just because it was such a normal kid moment. The mom, I think, maybe heard being laughed at when she asked for something and having a stranger laugh too probably added to her feeling humiliated or something. She went and got the girl back and was standing with her in line. I wasn't paying attention again until I heard the little girl crying. She was standing there as the mother was saying let me fix your hair. She had two little ponytails on the top of her head and the mom was pulling the hair hard, specifically to inflict pain on the child because she disobeyed. I looked around and nobody else noticed. I was horrified and didn't know what to do. maybe I should have cut in and said something to disrupt the situation. It was a brief little scene and I just didn't want to cross that line. I didn't want to make the mother angrier to abuse the girl more when they got home. I think I took a picture of their car later when I saw them in the parking lot and was going to report her but then later I just thought what am I going to say. The mom was fixing the girls hair and the child was crying. Now I have a new phone and the picture of the car is gone. Who knows if it was really them. Someone reported my mother when I was a kid and I can tell you that did absolutely nothing but bring a lot of extra hardship to my life. I saw the look in the eyes of that mom as she hurt that poor girl. That woman has some serious issues. I saw the same crappy behavior in that birthday video as she sprayed that confetti directly at the child's face and then in the tone of her voice when she'd say come here and the girl was hesitant.

The police are probably assuming it's the boyfriend because it's always the boyfriend but I don't know. I hope they thoroughly investigate this and don't make any assumptions about what a mother is and isn't capable of. If it was really them I saw at the grocery store someone else must have seen that kind of behavior too.
