Guy convicted of gunning down man in front of his young son at a Mattapan barbershop

A Suffolk Superior Court jury today convicted William Shakespeare, 30, of Dedham, of first-degree murder for the death of Marcus Hall in the Hair It Is barbershop on Blue Hill Avenue on June 14, 2016, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

The verdict means a mandatory sentence of life without possibility of parole, although Shakespeare will not formally be sentenced until Monday.

The jury convicted Shakespeare on theories of both premeditation and extreme atrocity or cruelty, after prosecutors said Shakespeare fired five shots at Hall, who had brought his four-year-old son to the barbershop for a haircut.

According to the DA's office:

During six days of testimony, Assistant District Attorney Catherine Ham of the DA’s Homicide Unit proved that Shakespeare was inside the barbershop when Hall and his 4-year-old son came in just before 12:20 pm. The two men had a tense verbal exchange followed by an argument in the parking lot. Shakespeare left the scene, the evidence showed, then returned a short time later, using a circuitous route through back yards and wooded areas. In a second confrontation, he shot Hall, causing fatal injuries, and then left Boston for New York, where Boston Police apprehended him early last year.

Too soon

Empathy is NOT my strong suit, so when I complain about a headline, it must really be off the mark.

Same. I was really shocked

Same. I was really shocked Adam posted that. Especially considering this father was killed in front of his son. Nothing remotely funny about this.

Wasn't trying to be funny

I saw another chapter in a horrible tragedy and, yes, given the suspect's name, thought a line from Hamlet about the nature of a killer would be appropriate. But it wasn't, so I changed the headline.

Clearly he changed it but it

Clearly he changed it but it was a really tasteless joke about this suspect’s name.

Adam usually replies to say he's made a change, but he hadn't when I saw it.
