Man who police say opened fire on them near Shattuck Hospital is ordered held without bail until at least Wednesday

Jeff Anilus, 31, of Randolph was arraigned today in a bed at Brigham and Women's Hospital, where he is recovering from gunshot wounds after, police say, he opened fire on officers and the officers returned fire early Thursday.

A judge ordered him held pending a dangerousness hearing on Wednesday, at which he could be ordered held without bail for another two months, on two counts of assault with intent to murder, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, possession of illegal firearm and ammunition, driving with a suspended license and failure to stop, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Police say Anilus sped away from a traffic stop on Blue Hill Avenue at Columbia Road around 12:30 a.m., only to crash near Shattuck Hospital on Morton Street. Police say he shot once at officers responding to the crash, fled into the woods then, after police set up a perimeter, opened fire again as officers moved toward him. Officers then returned fire, hitting him and sending him to the hospital with critical injuries.

Innocent, etc.
