Drumsticks on the move in Hyde Park

Turkeys!

DMCBoston forwarded the above photo, showing the turkeys that have been strutting around Sunnyside in Hyde Park for the last few months (Sunnyside is near Stony Brook Reservation, which seems like the kind of place turkeys might hide out). I've asked if they're killing machines like the ones up in Brookline or more live-and-let-live types. If I don't get an answer, will assume the worst.

Paul Revere the Shephard Fairey of his day?

J.L. Bell lays out the evidence that Revere's famous engraving of the Boston Massacre was actually based on the work of another artist.

Imagine if women in a state-funded health plan couldn't get referrals for a legal medical procedure

Cardinal O'Malley makes it perfectly clear on his blog: If Caritas Cristi and a partner do win a contract to become the default provider for the state health system, women will be on their own when it comes to abortions or emergency contraception:

... Caritas Christi will never do anything to promote abortions, to direct any patients to providers of abortion or in any way to participate in actions that are contrary to Catholic moral teaching and anyone who suggests otherwise is doing a great disservice to the Catholic Church. We are committed to the Gospel of Life and no arrangement will be entered into unless it is completely in accord with Church teaching. ...

Still, he adds that he is asking the National Catholic Bioethics Center to review the arrangement.

Conviction in 2007 South End murder

A Suffolk Superior Court jury today convicted Juan Figueroa, 25, of fatally stabbing John Austin following an argument on Austin's parenting skills, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office announced.

Figueroa and his girlfriend, the mother of Austin's young son, were picking the kid up from a scheduled visitation at Auston's Castle Court apartment on March 11, 2007, when Figueroa said Austin should "be a better father." That led to an argument that ended when:

The 5'11", 205-pound Figueroa grabbed the 5'5", 143-pound Austin around the head, produced a knife, and began to stab him.

Prosecutors showed Figueroa stabbed Austin five times, once through the heart. He then fled and was found in Westfield. He was convicted of second-degree murder.

The Monk of Forest Hills

Monk or inmate?

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade, or, in the case of the Arborway overpass by the Forest Hills T stop, when somebody paints over some graffiti, take advantage of that by drawing a head and hands atop the "body" (his left hand is actually on the other side of the pillar). He's been there for several months now, too.

Wasn't this an episode of 'Desperate Housewives'?

Johnny Monsarrat, the Somerville guy who answers questions left on this prayer-wheel thing in his garden, today posts an answer to the following:

my mother thinks she has my dad trapped in the basement and paces around the empty house glaring out the windows
