The fleecing of the brides: Cops say thousands duped by bogus wedding show

Boston Police report close to 6,000 brides-to-be and vendors have signed up for an alleged Spring Home and Bridal Show at the Hynes Convention Center this weekend that will not, in fact, go on.

The Massachusetts Convention Center Authority says no such show has been scheduled at the Hynes:

If you have paid to be an exhibitor or purchased a ticket, please contact Dennis Callahan at 617-954-2018 [email protected] for more information.

BPD and the FBI are now looking into the masterminds of the plot, whose Facebook page has been disabled, but whose Twitter feed is still live, although un-updated since Feb. 23. Its page on the Wedding Wire said admission was $10, but that "re-scheduled date pending."

One ad for the "show" promised:

This year's show offers elegant displays, demonstrations, samples, and plenty of discounts for attendees from more than 200 exhibitors of the area's most trusted experts. Attendees will enjoy stunning runway fashion shows featuring top designers, plenty of food and cake tastings as well as listen to top entertainment from local musicians and talented DJ's and a local Talent Show. Attendees will enjoy themselves and find exactly what they are looking for at The Boston 411 Home & Bridal Show. Every attendee at the show will receive a welcome bag of goodies and a chance to win fabulous gifts and prizes.
