Rest in Peace, Passim Folk Music and Cultural Center

What do WGBH-fm, WUMB-fm and now Club Passim all have in common? An aversion to the peoples' music. Each has gone to great lengths to re-invent themselves, scrubbing their programming and websites of the F word (folk, that is).

The first to go was "Folk Radio WUMB" (UMass Boston), when it accepted federal funding from NPR and CPB, which mandated a format change to AAA. Read Wahlberg and gang take over oyster house, 1/2/09.

MORE CHOICES, MORE VOICES?

I notice the WGBH newsletter is named "MORE CHOICES, MORE VOICES"

From the NOV. 25-30, 2009 edition

On December 1, WGBH is bringing WCRB 99.5 into our family of noncommercial, listener-supported public broadcasting stations, preserving a full-time classical service that otherwise would have switched to another format. With this acquisition, WGBH is moving all our classical music programming to the new station, where classical fans can enjoy a robust, 24/7 service, on air and online.
