Someone better make sure
Someone better make sure that Foders doesnt say parts of Dorchester arent safe.
Whats a 12 year old doing
Whats a 12 year old doing sitting on a porch at 12:00am?
Not being on the street for one thing
It's not like he was supposed to be in school this morning.
the hour
You make a good point about the hour. If there's no a/c in that unit, there's no point climbing into bed. Can you imagine how long it takes to cool the third floor in a three decker? I cool with fans not a/c at home and so choose to go to bed much later than usual.
it's the kid's fault?
that's crazy.
It doesn't matter what someone is doing, they don't deserve to be shot, and should feel safe enough to be able to be outside at any hour and not feel at risk for getting killed!
No shit it isn't the kids
No shit it isn't the kids fault. It's good not to put words in others mouth.
But again, when I was 12 years old I was in bed at 12:00am, even during the summer.
I don't have to point out it's also not the parents fault; but a 12 year old kid, unsupervised by any adults , outside at 12am, in a city...
That's bad parenting.
I thought
I thought the kids were on a third floor porch. How is that bad parenting?
We don't know that he was unsupervised
And I'd hardly call standing on a third-floor porch "being outside." Yes, he's exposed to the elements, but it's not like he's wandering the street or something.
Saw that part that wasn't in
Saw that part that wasn't in the initial story, so I'll concede that point.
It was in the inital story
and in the initial post too.
This was no "caught in the crossfire" shooting...
...which are bad enough. This was someone intentionally shooting up at a THIRD FLOOR porch. I bet these people feel safe knowing that Mumbles has dedicated himself to making sure the hoodlums don't take over the streets.
If he thinks they haven't, I'd hate to see what the streets will be like once they do.
And, to think, I'm the one with my photo and fingerprints (and full palm print) still on file at BPD. Great use of resources there, Mumbly.
Shot while waiting for a cab
The Herald reports the victims told police they were waiting for a cab. OK, I'll bite: Why is a 12-year-old (or 13, as the Herald says) getting into a cab at 12:30? In any case, still doesn't excuse the thug who shot them.
Well...
...they certainly couldn't have driven themselves anywhere.
Could have been a relative putting them in a cab to send them back home, or something like that.
I live in a suburb and when
I live in a suburb and when I was a kid my parents would visit my aunt and uncle in an even nicer suburb. Sometimes they would be having such a good time that me and my siblings would fall asleep in the playroom and my parents would wake us up at 1am to drive home (never on a school night, and not often.) I dont think people would be asking why at 11 years old I was groggily walking towards my mothers car in Belmont and getting in the back seat if I was shot.
If I lived in the city, and if I lived in a "non nuclear" family situation I could see how I could end up away from home at midnight needing to get home, isnt that what Taxis are for?
Too late to take the T, that's why
At that hour, the T is starting to shut down for the night. Depending on which direction they wanted to go, they might not be able to get a bus or train.
To be fair, it looks like
To be fair, it looks like the deck confined to the upstairs.
Still, It's pretty late for a 12 yr old to be up and about.
Could taunting someone in a car below be the cause?
