Run, run for your lives! Well, the 55 bus, anyway

Running for the 55 bus

Seems the driver of a 55 bus couldn't get down a particularly narrowed Fenway street this morning, so he went down another one. And, of course, as Najah shows us, nobody told the people waiting for the bus at Jersey and Queensberry, forcing them to run to Jersey and Boylston to try to catch the bus, literally.

Last Saturday a driver of the 88 bus in Somerville decided to skip a stop after the 422 McGrath stop, without announcing his intention to do so. (Reason: firetrucks ahead, which were *not* blocking bus' route, since bus curves through McGrath underpass thus bypassing section of road where trucks were). The 88 driver's flustered decision/lack of announcement caused me to miss my stop and prevented me from getting off a few yards ahead at the 422 McGrath stop. Instead, I was taken on the highway overpass and then dumped on the other side, at a merger of two highways, in the snowstorm. There were only snowbanks and traffic, nowhere to safely walk.

To make things worse, as I tried to figure out where I needed to walk to get back where I was going, and if it was possible to do so, the impatient and indifferent passengers shouted Get off the bus! , as the driver closed the doors on me twice as I tried to make a decision. This happened in under 60 seconds. No suggestion of alternate route, just a demand to exit the bus onto the side of a highway lined with snowbanks.

Maybe Boston2024 could photoshop an olympic torch into the picture, and include it with their bid packet.

Prosser: But the plans were on display.

Arthur Dent: On display? I eventually had to go down to the cellar.

Prosser: That's the display department.

Arthur Dent: With a torch.

Prosser: The lights had probably gone.

Arthur Dent: So had the stairs.

Prosser: But you did see the notice, didn't you?

Arthur Dent: Oh, yes. It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign outside the door saying "Beware of the Leopard." Ever thought of going into advertising?

But this picture reminds me - has anyone noticed all the dark pictures - even in bright light - that are being taken of the snow scenes? Without getting technical - that's your camera's auto-exposure adjusting for too much white in the scene which it reads as overexposed - even though it's not. If you are taking a picture of snow - or anything with a lot of white in it and want a better picture - go to the settings and increase your exposure a click or two (mine does it in half clicks). You will be much happier with the results.

Just sayin...

I check the mbta website for snow routes after storms, so I was informed on Tuesday that my normal stop at N&4th in Southie was moved to N&Broadway. As I walked up the street about ten people were waiting on 4th for god knows how long until I informed them of the route change.

I was happy to see today that they removed the bus stop sign on 4th and replaced it with a sign indicating the route change.

Also on my way home from work Tuesday the 11 bus was continually going the wrong way down East 8th now that it's a one way. One in in particular was blocking traffic from people going the correct way. After a driver informed the bus driver that he was in the wrong the bus driver yelled "I'm a bus". Like that makes sense.
