Trans flag comes down in front of City Hall; is moved to back of City Hall
By adamg on Tue, 05/03/2016 - 11:55am
One day after Mayor Walsh vowed to fly a flag in support of transgender rights until the state legislature passes a bill enabling them, workers took it down and replaced it with a Polish flag, in honor of the 225th anniversary of Poland's first constitution. They moved the flag to a pole on the Cambridge Street side of City Hall.
Like the job UHub is doing? Consider a contribution. Thanks!
We won, people
The battle for equal rights is over
If only we knew
that raising a flag would mean equal rights for all... And it only took a day.
Could arguably use a permanent flag there as well. Perhaps another flag pole is in order. A separate, but equal flag pole.
When does the TanZAYneeAH flag go up?
Inquiring minds want to know?
Don't worry ...
When the prime minister comes for a visit, the flag'll be up there.
Around the time...
Around the time that assholes who snark about others' quest for equal rights stop posting on UHub.
People are mocking the mayor
But please, try harder in your quest to be offended, im almost there.
Actually I was mocking Trump
And his mispronunciation of Tanzania a few days ago..
But I agree with you. The perpetually offended need to get a life.
based on new info.
Don't worry Marty promises to
Don't worry Marty promises to fill the plaza with more flag poles than the UN headquarters to appease everyone.
Seems like another Walsh flip
Seems like another Walsh flip flop. When will Baker finally stop dithering and announce his views? He came out strongly against refugees like fellow Republican businessman Trump, and claimed to not be able to make his mind up about Climate Change (and therefore probably evolution) since he is not a scientist, but cant he make up his mind about equal rights for transgender people, one way or the other, yet? Cant he take a break from fundraising and make his decision?
Somebody at City Hall explained to me after I posted this that there's actually a protocol for such things: When a flag that's supposed to be flying is temporarily replaced by another flag because it's Polish Constitution Day (or whatever), it's taken down to the Congress Street side and flown from one of the poles there, until it can be replaced back in front of the main entrance. Because I didn't even think of this, I didn't go down there to check to see if they'd done that (nor did I go up to the fifth floor for the Polish food, which I heard is possibly the best spread they have save for the one for when they raise the Vietnamese flag).
Why were there Poles on the Congress street side? Didn't they know about the ceremonial stuff going on on the Plaza? I feel terrible that they missed it.
"strongly against" refugees? He said he wanted to ensure that the vetting process was strict before accepting refugees. He didn't say he'd never accept no matter what.
I mean, his opinion on refugees
Is entirely irrelevant for any purpose other than making a character judgement.
Baker and Trump are selling the same thing
Please, it was classic Baker opportunism. Trump said he wanted to ban muslims, but like Baker said until we figure this out. Its been years and the refugees are barely crawling in, it takes 2 years to be vetted, and Baker thinks its not strict enough? He and Trump deserve each other, like Romney they have no core beliefs other than the fact they think as businssmen they can fix everything, but that has been proven wrong many times, most recently by fellow Harvard MBA Bush.
Tomorrow will see the raising of the flag in support of Polish transgendered rights.
As a polish trans women born in Boston
I for one would support such a symbol of my identity and intersectionality.
As a white male
I have to go to France for people to fly my flag, RIP
Marty says relax
Just updated the original post to reflect that the flag's been moved, not taken down completely.
Marty reads uHub!
...or he knows someone who does.
It's not that you can't do it
But with Poles in the front, you'll have to take it around back.
How long was it supposed to be there? Is trams-sexualism the only thing going on in Boston?
Until the law is passed
Now that you know that, you can spend your free time researching the difference between gender and sexuality.
i know a lot about gender and sexuality
gender is a fluid, and my sexuality is a solid
reading internet comments?
It's a good thing you don't get out much.

The trolley fanciers association gets to fly their flag next month.
