I would like all the sidewalks painted with lane markers too, yellow stripes down the middle at least. When people walk on the wrong side of the sidewalk it really tweaks me - we're not in England!

Lots of people who ride the T don't vote and don't "donate" to candidates. That's part of the reason.

The other part is a majority of people drive and falsely think that commuting is a zero-sum system: Anything which helps other roadway users must be negatively impacting them.

This is true. Also true that car zealots act like they have priority. Same with public transportation peeps.

The unlucky slob in the middle gets to coordinate all of this, look at the big picture and receive the most grief for any decision made.

But, if there weren't people crying for more, they wouldn't get anything. Golden rule for bargaining, right? Ask for more than you think you will get?

NB - not criticizing (nor necessarily praising) the idea of a bike lane there. Very much criticizing people who circumvent authority, do it wrongly, and do it unsafely.

picked off doing this crap and then watch them jump up and down when the driver, who could not see said nerd standing long the side of a narrow bridge in the dark, and then they will scream at the authorities to do something against said driver.

Would you not drive especially carefully when you see a whole mess of people in the road? You would, because to do otherwise would be negligent operation of a very dangerous vehicle. All those people are staying in one spot, if you can't keep from hitting them you need to not drive, and if you decide to drive anyway and hurt someone, you deserve to face the law.

I've been a daily year round biker in this city for the past 15 years. I like that some bike lanes and road markings have been implemented. But the "urban planners and designers" are going too far. Not all roads should have bike lanes. In many places Sharrows are much more appropriate. Cyclists need to merge and flow with car traffic, especially in these areas typically I'm going much faster on my bike than people in cars.
"Protected" Bike Lanes are the WORST.
Please do not let the bike bullies ruin any more of the streets in Boston. If they ruin the wonderful flow of Beacon Street in the back bay, i swear I'm buying a hummer.

The problem is that students and seniors don't feel comfortable riding on sharrowed roadways. Normal commuters probably don't mind as much, but most bike infrastructure projects aim for an 8-80 age range.

8 year olds riding on a busy roadway? Hell no.
There is a reason for the age limit of motor vehicle operators on the roads. Children belong on the sidewalk with a guardian.

How many kids have you raised? You clearly don't know the first thing about the abilities of eight year olds on bikes.

The roads are for all to use to get around. Dependence on driving is not appropriate as it excludes those too young and those with issues that prevent them from safely driving.

Car culture and car exclusion are damaging our health and limiting people's ability to navigate, when the roads belong to everyone.

A lot of people commute in the winter by bicycle in Utrecht. This was first snow in 2011. It was a light snow but it snowed all day so it took another day to get it cleared
