Yesterday, in a truly stupid mistake, I briefly posted that state Rep. Ed Coppinger of West Roxbury had died. In fact, it was his cousin, also named Ed Coppinger, who died. My apologies to both families for the screw up.
From the obituary it seems that the recently deceased Edward Coppinger was named after his father, so I guess it was a name that got repeated a decent amount. Edward used to be an extremely common name, and naming people after their family members also used to more popular, so it's easy to see how this situation arose.
The automated email notices that some get when a post is released got away as well. That showed up in my email box but by the time I clicked the post had been pulled. Not sure if the system has a recall button but just be aware that got away from you as well.

The real reckless screw up
The real reckless screw up was giving two cousins the same name.
Not ok
Posts about a death are not a place to crack wise. Be kinder, please.
Understandable for the time, I guess
