Charged with using a gun to end a fight
Thomas Manning, 22, of Allston, was ordered held without bail at his arraignment this morning in Brighton District Court. He pleaded innocent, might argue self defense:
The DA's office says Manning and Ortiz were acquaintances who got into a fight around 2 a.m. on March 29 while driving around in Manning's Mazda 626 - with a third individual. Ortiz may have been winning the fight. So Manning stopped the car on Linden Street, got out and fired a handgun through the rear window, then fled. Ortiz was taken to Beth Israel, where he was pronounced dead.
That's self-defense?
He fired behind him, at two other people who were fighting each other, and now claims self-defense?

Manning and Ortiz were fighting (allegedly, innocent until proven guilty, etc.), not the third person. I've fixed that.
Funny Misread
I clicked onto the above comment before reading the main story. I misread what Adam wrote. I thought he said "Manny and Ortiz were fighting..."

Sorry, but that's the way things are. Once these things become news, there will be public comment on them. Public comment is NOT the same as "writing your family" or any other family.
Not all those comments will be tasteful, and not all of them will be things that you want to see ... or want to believe (true or not). Regardless, your tirade/rant is not going to change what people say here. If I know this site, it will only serve to unleash some harsh dissection of your writing skills.

As for these comments here, its wrong to take someones life, but when your life is threatened??? guess what????? my life is more precious than yours! Condolences to the family, and if we do not forgive we are not human beings. he is doing his time and he is a better man.
