He credits "a couple of Web-savvy night owls" for posting the thing early (hey, I'm more of a night-owl Web savvant, Mike), sort of explains the mixer over his shoulder and then gets into more serious issues:

He wants to find "wasteful spending" and "generating new revenue" (i.e., actually taxing colleges and universities) before asking city workers for a wage freeze).

He talked up "a new generation of leadership" and how he will improve the "pretty pathetic" turnout in recent municipal elections (Rooney blamed the migration of the "angry white Irish" to the suburbs - um, as opposed to the calm black Irish who stayed behind?).

He says the city should be run on ideas, not "who you know."
