A concerned citizen refuses to play dead:

229 Northampton is attracting possums. Possums! They put food out for them (or maybe cats, but the possums have chased the cats off) on the front steps. I spotted a possum munching on the cat food last night at 7 pm, like a haunted buffet. This is gross. The possum gave me one of those looks like "oh, hey, what, are you gonna report me?" Yes I am.

A man showed up at Boston Medical Center around 8:45 p.m. with a stab wound he said he got somewhere on Gerard Street a few blocks away. His injury was not life threatening.

Stanley Staco reports two people, one a teen, were shot around 8:10 p.m. at 48 Bower St. Both look like they'll survive.

State Rep. Carlos Henriquez was sentenced to six months in jail today after he was convicted of two of five counts related to an incident involving a woman with whom he left a block party last year. The State House News Service reports House Speaker Robert DeLeo is telling Henriquez he can resign or face a House investigation.

Family and friends are mourning the death of Rick "Slick" Knight, a barber, father and uncle who was gunned down shortly before 6 p.m. in the barber shop at the rear of Good Eats at 996 Tremont St.

He is Boston's third murder victim this month.

The shop is a couple blocks away from where Joseph Morante was shot to death last year.

A pair of alleged rappers were arraigned today on charges they reacted to a complaint about the volume of their vocals at Mass. Ave. on the Orange Line Thursday night by doing a little Jim Croce on their critic's head.

Boston Municipal Court Judge Robert J. McKenna released Shakera Bowden of Dorchester and Curtessa Franklin of Canton, both 19, on personal recognizance, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office.

MassLive reports a Cambridge District Court jury was empaneled today to consider charges of assault and battery and witness intimidation against state Rep. Carlos Henriquez of Roxbury for a 2012 incident involving a woman in the back of a Zipcar after a Dorchester block party.

Remains of the bear cages in Franklin Park.

A concerned citizen reports somebody's been busy destroying one of our city's most important cultural ruins: The old bear cages off Seaver Street in Franklin Park:

Bear cages in Franklin Park are being vandalized. Cages are being stolen for scrap. Park Ranger I spoke to said they couldn't do anything about it. This is a city landmark and historic structure and needs to be protected!!! Please help!

Parking space saver in Roxbury

Most people just toss their space savers on the nearest snowbank when they park, but Jed Hresko discovered last night that one person on Townsend Street in Roxbury decided to keep his or her snow chair out of the elements.

Fire in Roxbury

The Boston Fire Department reports a two-alarm fire sparked by a short circuit between the second and third floors of 402 Warren St. caused an estimated $200,000 in damage.

The fire, reported at 3:48 a.m., sent the three people living in the building's second and third floors out. One firefighter was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

Around 6:45 p.m. One victim was found on Cabot Street, the other on Annunciation Road. Both are expected to survive.

The Supreme Judicial Court today ruled a man convicted of a 1981 murder in Kenmore Square can apply for parole because he was only 17 at the time he became a killer, because his automatic sentence of life without parole violates both the federal and state prohibitions on cruel and unusual punishment, at least as far as adolescents are concerned.

The US Supreme Court ruled last year that juvenile murderers could not be automatically sentenced to life without parole but that a judge could use his discretion to impose such a sentence after a hearing.

Shortly before midnight on Tremont Street near Mass. Ave. Police are now looking for her blue, 2010 Camry with Mass. plates 922 VM7, now driven by a black man, about 5'8", with a heavy build and wearing a black sweater. The car has a large dent on the right rear side and frogs hanging from the rear-view mirror and attached to the dashboard.
