State Police report two men were found dead at Carson Beach in South Boston today. The first, around 1:30 p.m., appears to have drowned. State Police say the second man, found near H Street around 3:30 p.m. did not appear to have drowned; his cause of death is under investigation.

A North Grafton man's proposal to turn the decrepit and now closed Supreme House of Pizza at 313 Old Colony Ave. in South Boston into a modern recreational-marijuana shop met with heavy opposition at a community meeting this evening - just a day after the owner of the pizza place withdrew his application to deliver pizza until 2:45 a.m. on weekends. Pfizer, which has research and vaccine manufacturing facilities in Cambridge and Andover, and BioNTech, a German drug company with an office in Cambridge, are asking a federal judge to declare the recipe for their Covid-19 vaccine doesn't infringe on any patents held by CureVac, a German company with an office on Fort Point Channel that tried and failed to develop a marketable Covid-19 vaccine. Eversource now says it could be around 11:15 a.m. before some 745 customers between L Street and Farragut Road get back the power they lost around 7:45 p.m. yesterday - although a few might not be able to turn their AC back on until 12:30. Read more.

Penn Central 3182 on Southeast Expressway in 1969

Then: Engine 3182 stuck on and in the Expressway.

On Aug. 21, 1969, three locomotives being readied to haul freight to Albany, NY escaped what is now the Cabot Yard in South Boston and barreled right into the Southeast Expressway, carving deep grooves in the roadway before they came to a halt and blocking northbound traffic.

Michael William Sullivan reports that the lead locomotive in the runaway express remains on the rails and doing hard work, now down in New Jersey. Read more.

Boston Restaurant Talk reports the Boston Licensing Board will hold a hearing next Wednesday on whether to let B.K.'s Pub on Washington Street in Roslindale sell its liquor license to Borrachito and the Garret Bar at The Superette on Seaport Boulevard, with Borrachito being your basic New York-style taco place and the Garret Bar a "speakeasy" behind that that those in the know will enter by opening what appears to be the door to a walk-in freezer, but, oops, we've said too much.

Boston Police report arresting a South Boston man, not for beating somebody up on Costello Way in the West Broadway development around 8:40 p.m. on Tuesday, but for the "Springfield Armory model XDM-9 firearm with one round in the chamber and eighteen rounds in the magazine" officers say they found him with shortly after over at B Street and Flaherty Way.
