This sounds like a winning combination of construction jobs, expanded and updated public transportation and continued renewal of the Financial District - Seaport area. There is plenty of reason to make this happen.
Since the negotiations are between governmental agencies I wonder whether our Federal elected officials are engaged in making this happen. I am especially curious about Kerry, Brown and Lynch. Are they contributing to making this project happen?
MBTA and Amtrak could stand to improve their turnaround times even without this going ahead. On the other hand, the station throat is a bottleneck and this might alleviate it. If it can be done on the cheap, great.
But anything which delays the South Coast Rail boondoggle is a good thing. That's just another billion dollars waiting to be flushed down the toilet, at least, given current plans. They want to build palatial stations for truck stops and run service that is slower than the current commuter buses. What a mess.
