Citizen complaint of the day: Rats!
By adamg on Thu, 03/12/2015 - 4:29pm
A concerned citizen reports rodents of unusual size in the fire swamp at Cambridge and Seattle streets in Allston:
Caller is reporting that there are rats the size of small dogs running around this area.
Up on Morris Street in East Boston, an equally concerned citizen with a rodent problem does not specify the size, but that's not what's concerning him or her:
Whoever lives in this home is throwing dead rodents on glue boards out the back window and leaving them on snow piles in the yard.

Free 'all you can eat buffet' for rats
As the snow melts and reveals the 4-6 weeks of trash underneath it, its a great time to be a rat. Still lots of trash that was never picked up in Dorchester. Still lots of space savers never picked up. I stopped calling the Mayors Hotline after they told me they wouldn't pick up anything "in a snow bank".
But I understand that Broadway in Southie is now clean, so the drunks from Braintree and Weymouth can fill it up with trash again. Great job Marty!!
Trash bags filled with trash as space savers
For those that apparently can't afford a broken chair or don't want to steal an orange cone, loose trash bags filled with trash are quite popular as space savers. Great for rats!!!!
The snow is 65% gone in East
The snow is 65% gone in East Boston , now I'm seeing garbage popping up from the melted snow, with piles of debris on just about most curbside streets and sidewalks, With no sight of Boston Public works cleaning the curbsides, there are no excuses, snow is almost gone, we need people on the ground cleaning ,sweeping, street sweeper will not go over areas where there is still snow. It's disgusting!
Rats the size of small dogs you say?
I'd call that rather small for a rat, having lived in both the Back Bay and Allston.
While I have to agree that seeing them running around free is very concerning...the solution is to remove their food source(s)...uncovered trash. Also, landlords should inspect the foundations inside and out for cracks and holes and have those filled in so rodents of any size can't/won't get inside to supplement their diets.
Being somewhat of a realist, I know most of the absentee landlords of Allston can't be bothered.
Gnarly rats have been spotted in Dorchester too!
Gee, I wonder of this rat thing has anything to do with the lack of garbage pickup for a few weeks after the blizzards or all of the trash & dogshit etc that is emerging from the melting snowdrifts.
And if you live below the 4th
And if you live below the 4th floor... keep your toilet lid closed, especially if work has been done on the sewage lines in your neighborhood. Don't google it!
I haven't seen any rats roaming the Back Bay in daylight hours recently, despite the hordes of trash strewn everywhere. Do rats eat dog shit? Becuase there's plenty of that too! Happy Friday!
Stop body-shaming the rats
Their genes cause them to be unable to resist a veritable smorgasbord orgasbord orgasbord.
