Cab plows into house in Roslindale

Cab got the worst of it in crash with house on Walworth Street

Someone's got to be taking bets on Kendra Lara being the passenger.

What do we expect from regular citizens if the city officials are no better.

It must have been that darn dog I saw riding a bike whilst throwing empty nips all over the place.

I hope all involved are ok.

Looks like a stupid intersection that could benefit from some traffic calming. To accommodate how Walworth Street has a weird bend in it, the road widens at the intersection so one side of the road meets at a 90 degree turn and the other intersects at a 45 degree turn.

I live not far from there, and I try very hard to avoid it. Especially as a pedestrian.

It's a dumb intersection. The lanes are wide enough that impatient drivers always try to turn one lane into two, rather than wait behind somebody making a left.

Additionally, and perhaps relevant to this crash, people loooove to live park on Walworth to run into the convenience store just after the bridge over the commuter rail tracks. They could turn right and park on Belgrade a couple doors down, but apparently that would cost valuable scratchie-grabbing seconds. This leads to drivers swerving around them, and into oncoming traffic, when the light turns green.

It's not as huge a mess as the absolute goat rodeo that is West Rox Parkway between Belgrade and the Holy Name rotary, but it's damn close.

It's a one-car anti-road diet ad. Oh wait, Belgrade, not Centre. Just imagine if it was Centre. What would the stop the road diet folks be saying? "If only we had a third lane in each direction!"

There were still active cabs out there.

The difference between being a cabbie and an uber/lyft driver is that you don't get to keep being an uber driver if you scam your customers, make them fear for their lives, or simply don't show up. The remaining cabbies are the ones that can't clear the low bar of their cars not smelling like absolute death from chain smoking.

A speeding (hit and run) red car slammed into the white cab, sending it into the house -- and then sped away. So this might not be the cab driver's fault at all.

I have lived in Roslindale (Cornell b/w Washington and Kittredge) for 12 years. I don’t know what’s up with the driving around here the past couple years, but our family van (along with our neighbor’s car in the same exact two incidents) has been seriously hit twice when parked in the street. Both times neighbors got the plate numbers, so our insurance covered everything. But we are talking weeks in the shop here.

My husband has called the mayor’s office about speed bumps etc. but they ain’t doing jack! Meanwhile, a woman was sent to my daughters’ school from the mayor’s office to encourage my kids to ride their bikes to school! Which is a great idea but when we met this woman at a family fitness night at the school and asked about driving safety etc, she said she was tired of people saying the city wasn’t doing enough!

Oh yeah and someone drove into a freaking HOUSE (the LIVING ROOM!) on Poplar a few years back!!!

I don’t see speed bumps, police cars stationed at busy spots, slow down signs, nada.

...there have now been 4 incidents of vehicles plowing into buildings:

1.) the car the hit the building on Cohasset Street in Roslindale Square

2.) the collision into a porch on Washington Street in Roslindale that killed one man and injured another

3.) City Councilor Kendra Lara's infamous crash into a home in Jamaica Plain, injuring her improperly restrained young son, among other egregious illegal circumstances

And now...

4.) This cab plowing into a home in Roslindale.

Mr. Magoo has nothing on these porch pilots flying around here in motor vehicles! Is anybody NOT texting and driving?

I think you missed a couple:

And I thought there was a second barbershop in the area hit earlier this year, but I might be thinking of this one, in Brighton:

And I might recall hearing about a house in Hyde Park hit around the same time.

None of that damage is going to "buff right out" I'm afraid. Restoring a porch is darn expensive.
