Goofus returns: JP road closures on Sunday morning

Don’t let Goofus surprise you again: the B.A.A. Half Marathon on Sunday morning will shut down the Arborway, Jamaicaway, Riverway, much of Franklin Park and other area roads between 7:30 AM and 10:30 AM.

On a related note, come see some really speedy runners like American half marathon record holder Kiera D’Amato fly around the course.

Without an accompanying map this all makes my brain bleed: https://www.boston.gov/news/traffic-advisory-november-10-12-2023

What/where is the "Forest Hills Overpass"?

The overpass was an asset on days like tomorrow.

That was the Casey Overpass.

More to the point, I know that Google maps is not 100%, reliable, but... I am not aware of any road or Street in that area that is currently called "Forest Hills Overpass"

Imagine how much more pleasant and safe Franklin Park, Jamaica Pond and the arboretum would be if they did this every Sunday.

It's called Peru Massachusetts.

If you want peace and quiet all the time, call UHual.

The rest of us don't want to live in the small town you grew up in.

Peru, MA is a place where cars go and nothing is walkable.

Boston is a city not built for cars, but has them wedged in nonetheless. Different.

It's embarrassing watching a grown man pretend that he speaks for others.

Can we turn it down, please? The bass is turned up so loud that nearby residents can't escape it even with all our storm windows closed. Have fun out there, but keep it outdoors, please.

There were no signs, except the tow zone signs on the inbound path of the route.

BTD for the loss again.

The parkways are all state roads, so Way to Go, DCR!

You are correct, except for the Brookline roads I was on- I didn't do the whole route, but I did go over the Arredondo Brothers Bridge then swung over to the Brookline side on the way back. The back side, until Jamaica Pond, are town roads to the best of my knowledge.

Still, I called out the wrong BTD.

Road race applicants should be required to submit a traffic management plan for the police on duty to follow and that plan needs to truly manage traffic rather than just blocking traffic onto the course.

The problem is that the plans are not shared with the public.

There are time limits for the closure of the roads, and at Forest Hills along Morton Street they have some special detours that put the westbound (or is it northbound) traffic in the eastbound lane while shunting the eastbound traffic into what would be best described as the carriage lane.

We wish Gallant had taken charge.

Problem with using a reference that i don’t actually understand. Fixed.

For those of you who remember the Highlights children's magazine, Goofus was the boy who was impolite, rude and selfish, while Gallant was polite and often exhibited good manners, often correcting the errors Goofus committed.

That Goofus and Gallant cartoon was so counterintuitive. Growing up, we all thought Goofus was cool and that Gallant was a wuss. And no, it doesn't mean we all grew up to be criminals. It's just the way the silly thing was presented that didn't really work.

My grandma would read these with us and say "But watch out for that Gallant guy because he's shady - he's probably going to steal from you".

She had him flagged as a con man, lol.

Do Bee and Don't Bee were early guides to proper behavior for me.

Another Romper Room student here. I had no idea who or what Goofus and Gallant were.

... but not Goofus and Gallant. I mainly recall the "how many hidden things can you find in this picture" feature.

When the bookmobile came around. Is that still a thing?

The city's road management really shined through.
