South Boston losing its touch when it comes to fending off deck expansions

The Zoning Board of Appeal today unanimously approved a West 7th Street's resident's request to expand his deck.

A resident of a condo at 160 West 7th St. sought permission to more than double the size of his deck, from 240 to 500 square feet, to provide more space for his growing family.

As is customary, City Councilor Ed Flynn joined the neighborhood resident's group in opposing the proposal.

And as is usual, one of his aides read the same statement his aides always read at South Boston deck hearings, that the councilor opposes both all new and expanded decks because they have become a major problem in the neighborhood, what with raucous "all night" parties that leave the streets strewn with "pizza boxes and beer cans."

I think the roof decks are less of a problem that people walking around South Boston like is New Orleans. Did I miss the repeal of the open container law?

What problems do you see with people walking with drinks?

Seems vastly less of an issue than driving with drinks.

Which family members are going to live on the deck?
