Green Line notification hacking

Bill notes that, unlike riders on more technologically advanced lines, who get their official T notices via garbled PA announcements by Bruins players, Green Line riders still get their official info from pieces of paper taped up by T employees. And that can lead to things such as this notice posted at the Brookline Hills stop.

Sam Yoon should consult his own YouTube videos before denying he said something

Yoon today claims the Globe is misrepresenting his stance on a return to an elected school committee, that he only said we should talk about whether we should bring it back.

As Adam Reilly notes, Yoon should really be careful claiming he never said something like that when he said stufff like that in his campaign announcement, the one he thoughtfully posted on YouTube:

In order to become the Boston that we know we can be, we have to be willing to face our problems head on, and be willing to be bold, innovative, creative. And we need to talk. We need to talk about what it would mean to go back to an elected school committee. At a time when our schools are facing the largest budget shortfall they've ever seen, we have to question whether an appointed school committee--appointed solely by the mayor--can truly be the educational advocates we need them to be.

Now, yes, technically, Yoon did not say "Elected School Committee. Let's get one. Now." But he sure sounds like that's the direction he's fancying.

Take a pass on that waterfront property deal?

New study predicts that Boston will be affected heavily by rising sea levels due to climate change:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090315/ap_on_re_us/sc...

But the oceans won't rise at the same rate everywhere, said study author Jianjun Yin of the Center for Ocean-Atmospheric Prediction Studies at Florida State University. It will be "greater and faster" for the Northeast, with Boston one of the worst hit among major cities, he said. So, if it's 3 feet, add another 8 inches for that region.

Cognitive Dissonance, NBA Style

The NBA store is selling a "St. Patrick's Day" collection with the entire league represented. This may be your only chance to own a green Lakers cap with a shamrock on the back.

Something they can't just paper over

Susan Labandibar, president of Tech Networks of Boston, writes to the CEO of Kimberly-Clark to explain how none of the users of her company's four restrooms will ever put Kimberly-Clark toilet paper to their tushes as long as it continues to purchase pulp from Canadian Boreal forests.
