It would be a shame if somebody tripped on their ice and sued them

The Web site for Vessel on Tremont Street in the South End exhorts:

This winter, consider Vessel your source for beautiful, practical items that speak volumes for your good design sense.

These photos by the Missus of the ice-covered sidewalk in front of the store may not be beautiful, but they speak volumes for the store's lack of concern for pedestrians.

Lying tax opponents and the lies they tell

Lance explains why people harrumphing about Patrick's proposal to let cities and towns raise the meals tax are full of it:

... Anyone who tells you that the local meals tax will hurt business in one town and drive diners to another is lying to you (And if they dare suggest that it might drive diners out of state - where Connecticut already has a 6% meals tax, Rhode Island and New Hampshire 8%, and Vermont 9% - they don't deserve your time). ...

Whatever happened to Gidget?

Weird: Seems Peter Blute's been doing radio spots for Massport, the authority he headed until he went on a three-hour tour. Heslam of the Herald not only calls him out, she posts a copy of the infamous photo, still with a discrete black bar hiding some of what Gidget's got.

Varitek for at least one more year

According to a boston.com breaking news alert, Varitek has agreed to a one-year deal with the Sox. I know people have been bad-mouthing Tek a bit but I'm happy the quad-endowed catcher is sticking around.
