Not everybody watches the news

Boston Police report the arrest of a mother for leaving her baby in a locked car, just one day after a 17-month-old was found dead, abandoned in the back of a day-care van.

Police say officers on foot patrol around 10:45 a.m. were alerted by a passerby about the baby in a car outside 2201 Washington St. in Roxbury:

While approaching the scene, officers observed a large crowd gathered around a parked car. Upon looking inside the car, officers observed an infant child crying loudly and sweating heavily. Officers promptly called EMS to respond to the scene. In the interim, to ensure the safety and well-being of the child, officers employed the use of a 'slim jim' in order to gain entry to the car and access to the child. While officers were taking the child from the car, the child's mother showed up on scene and began hysterically crying and stating that she forgot that she had left her child in the car. The child was transported to the Boston Medical Center for treatment and evaluation purposes. The mother stated that she had been gone for about 20 to 30 minutes.

Idalia Grant, 27, was charged with neglect of a child.

Innocent, etc.

Car fire in the hole in Charlestown

The Boston Fire Department reports a car fire four stories down in a garage at a Charlestown condo filled the garage with smoke.

Firefighters made short work of the fire underneath the Flagship Wharf building, 197 8 St., reported shortly after 1 p.m., but now must ventilate the structure to get rid of the heavy smoke, the department says.

And whose metro area has the fastest growing regional economy in the country?

Why, ours, according to the federal Bureau of Economic Analysis:

Of the ten largest metropolitan areas, the three with the fastest real GDP growth in 2010 were Boston-Cambridge-Quincy, MA-NH (4.8 percent), New York-Northern New Jersey-Long Island, NY-NJ-PA (4.7 percent), and Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, DC-VA-MD-WV (3.6 percent).

H/t Joseph.

JP group may or may not rewrite proposal that Whole Foods may or may not sign

The Jamaica Plain Gazette keeps us up to date on the JP Neighborhood Council, which is now busy "redesigning" the agreement it may or may not want Whole Foods to sign and which it may or may not have discussed with the company at a meeting that may or may not have left the door open to further negotiations earlier this month.

[T]he JPNC did not directly ask Whole Foods to sign anything, and Whole Foods did not directly say no, Howley told the Gazette. She said that certain requests "made it unsignable" because they addressed practices that Whole Foods never does as a company. She declined to specify those requests on the record.

If only Pink Floyd went to BU: Hey, coppers, leave us kids alone

The BU Daily Free Press objects to efforts by the BU, Boston and Brookline police departments to crack down on underage drinking off campus, basically asking why they don't concentrate on catching real criminals:

While it is important to keep students safe, invading off-campus territories with constant patrols and threats will become a headache for off-campus residents and only increases stress among the student body.

Playing Lost on the Green Line

Felicia likes to look around as she rides the trolley and imagine which people would fill which roles:

Sometimes I get lucky and there's a Sayid– or even better, a Sawyer/Sayid combo.

Other times I hope the clunky Green line keeps it together until I get home, 'cause I don’t want to be stuck in THAT storyline.
