How not to get a visit by the police at 2 a.m. or be cited to the Dean of Students

Welcome back everyone to a great year!

This year Police District 14 is under pressure from the city to strictly enforce the law in the problem area of Allston, particularly the Linden and Gardner Street area.

Mercy: Worcester-area mom can't bring her kids to the park for fear they might see the gays

She's just not ready to answer her kids' inevitable questions about sodomy:

I can't even go to normal places without having to sit silently and tolerate immorality. We all know what would happen if I asked two men or two women to stop displaying, right in front of me and my children, that they live in sodomy.

Tourist stays in JP, loves it

We'd earlier discussed JP as a tourist destination. Nicole, from Columbus, Indiana, reports it's pretty cool as a pied-a-terre for exploring Boston.

The minute we arrived in Jamaica Plain I knew it was a perfect fit. It reminded us so much of our old neighborhood in downtown Indianapolis--lots of one and two family homes just a few inches apart from each other. It also had a diverse mix of people that we love.

Plus, we were just steps away from the Stony Brook T station, meaning we could be in downtown Boston in about 10-15 minutes. While my initial preference was to stay in the heart of the city, it was actually nice to escape it throughout the day, give [the toddler] a little more room to play, and just relax a bit more than we might have otherwise.

Today would not be a good day to be driving a Penske truck around Boston

UPDATE: Truck found, it was up to good - legit picking up charity donations - the Globe reports.

Boston and State Police are on alert this morning, in search of an 18-foot Penske truck spotted with blue, plastic 55-gallon drums last night on Columbus Avenue near Mass. Ave.

The Globe reports police issued an alert after receiving a report of "three men loading large buckets of unknown material."

That report came in around 10 p.m. Around midnight, an officer stopped a Penske truck at Stuart and Tremont streets. After it checked out OK, Boston Police notified police between there and Winchester - where it was headed - that it was legit.

Group says 11 liquor stores in the North End are enough

The North End Waterfront Residents Association voted to oppose any efforts to increase the number of stores selling liquor in the North End, NewEnglandWaterfront.com reports. The neighborhood currently has 11 retail liquor licenses - one currently unused.

The vote has no legal authority, but the Boston Licensing Board, which doles out booze permits, asks neighborhood groups for their input on license requests. Both the North End association and its Back Bay counterpart have already set similar informal limits on the number of alcohol-serving restaurants.

A park near Akamai Technologies in Cambridge will be dedicated today to honor co-founder Daniel Lewin, a passenger on American Airlines Flight 11.
