His Sox buddy, his friend, is gone

Hart Brachen of Soxaholix mourns the loss of Butch, the family dog, who died this weekend:

... And he was with me, literally right beside me, pressed against my leg or head in my lap, for every Red Sox moment since Spring of 2000. Through three different places we called home, he was there, listening to the radio broadcast or watching TV, from Jurassic Carl, thru Kerrigan, and thru the improbable comeback in Oakland in 03 and the eventual game 7 ALCS heartbreak later, thru the Schilling Thanksgiving and every moment of the drama of 2004, he was there with me.

He was always right there with me. ...

A trip to the Brimfield fair

A Proper Bostonian takes her camera for a trip west:

... The Land of Dead Musical Instruments had returned to Quaker Acres. There were heaps of broken guitars, dead drums, warped woodwinds. It was like someone had raided the band room at the High School of the Performing Arts for Hopelessly Bad and Destructive Musicians ...

Frenzied tweens cause area-wide shortage of rubber bands

Who's got the rubber bands? The scene on Saturday at the Walgreens on Centre Street, West Roxbury, where they couldn't keep up with the demand for shaped rubber bands.

As fads go, this is probably the most harmless ever: Rubber bands molded in various shapes and colors (multi-colored eye-glass frames, anyone?) are all the rage among the pre-teen set. The kidlet reports one girl in her class has like $30 worth of the shaped rubber around her wrist. Although the whimsical rubber bands have been around for a couple years now, they only blossomed into a full-fledged craze, at least in Roslindale and West Roxbury, about three months ago.

Another fine mess the Green Line got us into

The Riverside downtime was apparently scheduled. The downed wire on the B line at Kenmore, though? On the weekend that BU is graduating? Totally unplanned, natch. Totally chaotic as the T brought in buses for service between Copley and Kenmore - with extra bus service for B riders to Blandford. Take a look at the scene in Copley around 9 p.m.
