Two Boston College buildings evacuated because of chlorine leak; Beacon Street shut

UPDATE: Everything back to normal; roads re-opened.

Firefighters from Boston and Newton evacuated the Merkert Chemistry Center and the neighboring Campion Hall because of a possible noontime leak from supposedly empty chlorine cylinders in a delivery truck.

The Boston Fire Department reports the driver of the AirGas truck, which had eight 150-lb. chlorine cylinders was on Beacon Street, about to turn onto the BC campus for a delivery, when he smelled chlorine. The truck was also carrying propane and hydrogen.

Beacon Street and side streets leading to it are shut down. Four or five houses on Stone and Cedar streets in Newton were evacuated. No injuries were reported.

New bike lanes on Beacon, Commonwealth praised by cyclists

Sean Roche goes so far as to declare the lanes, unveiled yesterday, reveal Boston as the new Portland - especially the lanes on Comm. Ave. from Charlesgate to the Public Garden:

... It's really tough to put into words how remarkable these bike improvements are and what a sea change it is to have Boston setting the standard for comprehensive bike accommodations. ...

Joe Ranft is also liking them:

... I especially like the lanes on Commonwealth Avenue that are not placed next to parked cars on the right side of the road, but on the left side, fairly well respected by drivers with no danger from opening car doors. ...

However, he adds:

... It's definitely progress, but you can still tell that bike lanes are only added where there is room, and not in place of parking spaces. ...

Mike Ball of Hyde Park, who keeps trying to get Mayor Menino to ride a bike with him to City Hall, reports on yesterday's formal dedication, which also included City Council President Mike Ross:

... His head's in the right place. He's the one who encouraged Menino to bike. He backed that up with a gift of a mountain bike ... and more encouragement. Ross was the catalyst, Menino has said repeatedly. ...

The people who have no clue they actually live in Boston

OK, this is going back to aquapocalypse days, but Maureen Rogers is still marvellling at the debate that broke out in a forum on A Certain Newspaper site over whether people who live in Allston and Brighton were affected by the boil-water order because the published lists mentioned Boston, but not Allston or Brighton. One person even swore Brighton was its own town because it has its own police department:

How can you be a sentient adult, aware enough of the world outside of yourself to make comments in online forums, and not know where you live?

No signs of trauma in death of man under Albany Street ramp

State Police found the body of a white male, about 45, below the Albany Street off ramp from I-93 last night, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

The body, found in what appears to be a makeshift shelter, shows no obvious signs of trauma, but an autopsy will be performed, the DA's office says, adding troopers have tentatively identified the apparently homeless man, but are not releasing his name pending confirmation and notification of next of kin.

All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for Papelbon to take the mound

Maybe L-girl is right about this year's Red Sox:

... If the Red Sox manage to seriously contend this season, if we make a run at the division or the wild card and make the playoffs, it will be an amazing comeback. But so many things would have to happen for that to occur – the Sox playing much better than they appear to be able to do, and more than one other team hitting a prolonged slide. It's looking highly unlikely. ...
