Mid-day shooting near English High; Orange Line service halted as cops search trains for suspect
By adamg on Fri, 03/26/2010 - 1:06pm
UPDATE: Arrest made.
Boston Police tweet somebody was shot at Amory and Williams streets. Conqy reports he and other passengers sat in a closed inbound train at Roxbury Crossing for more than 20 minutes as cops armed with machine guns search trains and stations for possible shooters. As the train finally pulled out, writes: "Looked like the police had maybe 5-7 people surrounded."
During the investigation, the T ran shuttle buses for passengers not unlucky enough to be stuck on a train.

Timing is everything
Well, at least it happened on the orange line today - everyone will be able to tweet and blog about it whilst in the tunnels. :)
Machine guns?
Machine guns?
Saw them setting up MG42's at
Saw them setting up MG42's at Green Street!
It's wild!
Thanks I was wondering what is going on. Tons if police at green street station right now.
MG42s
MG42s? I didn't realize the BPD was using surplus weapons from the Nazi wehrmacht.
Part of Green Line also shut during search for shooter
Wicked Local Brookline reports the T shut down B services between Packard's Corner and Blandford St. as part of the same search today.
Two places at once??
So...the shooting was SE of Jamaica Pond...but they shut down the B Line from Allston to Kenmore?
Is there a wormhole somewhere that I'm missing here?
Wormholes
Now *that* would be a way to get around town!
English High says shooting had nothing to do with it
The Jamaica Plain Gazette reports the victim is 26, expected to survive.

And this is one of the notorious "underperforming" schools? Christ on a popsicle stick.
That school has got to be
That school has got to be beaten into shape and damned if noonish dismissal on Fridays is going to do it. They have basically admitted it's not worth the trouble if they are sending kids home at lunch time one day every week.

Students are released early
Students are released early so that teachers can have more time for professional development. As you may have noticed, the persavive view these days is that all teachers are bad and in desperate need of more training and development. Students at English High School still have as much time on learning as other Boston public high schools because the other four days are extended.
Actually, I bet they have
Actually, I bet they have pretty good teachers mostly. I don't blame the teachers. I blame a nasty, angry, violent culture (I am not singling out any group for this--there is plenty of blame to go around for everyone) and criminally terrible parenting. Just turn on the TV and you will see examples of this paraded about for all to see--and it is celebrated and encouraged. I also hear that the administration at the school is a mess but I did hear there have been changes. It does still seem undisciplined to send students home at lunch time one day each week.
