Sami's finally ready to wrap 'n' roll in Jamaica Plain
By adamg on Wed, 01/20/2010 - 3:51pm
Sami's, which has been teasing JP with window signs for falafel, wraps and breakfast for almost forever now at 654 Centre St., finally got the last city permit it needs today, will do some touch-up work this weekend and, barring any last-minute mishaps, actually open next week. At least, that's what they said when I stopped in - I was thanked profusely for being so interested in their food.
It's owned by Sami himself, the guy who's been dishing up falafel and wraps in the medical district since 1979.

It's about time...
If they stay open late, they could really clean up. The is no Middle Eastern food anywhere near here!
Is West Roxbury that far away?
There's the King on Centre Street (the WRox one, not the JP one).
One man's opinion
It is in non-biking weather if you live in JP and you don't own a car. The 38 bus runs too infrequently--save for the monthlyish zipcar trip to Roche Bros., W. Roxbury may as well border Framingham when my bike is snowed in.
Think of the carbon
Think of the carbon footprint!
i think more of the cost,
i think more of the cost, stress and hassle....
DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE
Used go to the Longwood Sami's back in their heyday twice a week and late night most weekends; you couldn't find a better falafel period. After a long absence, I rediscovered Sami's and today, ordered a Falafel Wrap with Baba Ghanoosh and Tabbooli; hoping it would be at least half as good as they used to be. The Falafel was as good as the old Sami's; flavor was there but the rest of the wrap could have come out of a vending machine. Tabbooli was old, flavorless and skimpy. There was so much tahini sauce I couldn't even find any Baba Ghanoosh; let a lone, taste any.
Don't bother to check the daily specials; there's nothing special at this reincarnation of Sami's. Sami Saba Jr, running it now, has no clue how AMAZING the old Sami's was. Now it's just a bad deli with a middle eastern mask. SAMI'S RIP.
Up with
Middle Eastern food, down with cold cuts in pita bread -- hope they focus on the former
Sweet tapdancing Francis,
Sweet tapdancing Francis, it's about time. It's nice to see both Sami's and Primo Pizza on South Street finally getting their permits and opening shop. Of the two, Sami's is the more welcome change of pace. However, I can't sell Primo's thin crust Greek pie short.
