Going nuts over the Zakim
By adamg on Mon, 02/04/2013 - 10:35pm
A town in Washington has built a replica of the Zakim Bridge - for squirrels. It now also serves as something of a memorial to the man who thought it up - who died before the 12-foot-long replica could be installed:
Dick, a retired Longview attorney who had a lifelong fascination with bridges, was familiar with the Zakim Memorial Bridge because it appeared in background shots of "Boston Legal," one of his favorite TV shows, according to his wife, Diane Dick.

Charlestown
No doubt the good people of Charlestown will be protesting since he did not call it the Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge.
Squirrel transponders?
Will it have electronic tolling? Or will there be chipmunks collecting acorns from each squirrel?
I wonder
if a few years after its built if they'll have to replace the concrete for because of substandard materials?
A what?
Okay, I'll bite: what the hell is a squirrel bridge?
Are we seriously saying that it's a bridge, like, for squirrels? As in, this a thing that people like to make? Bridges for squirrels to use in crossing over streets? Really?
Dude. That makes my head hurt.
Yes, a bridge for squirrels
Nutty Narrows - Squirrel Bridge.
3... 2... 1...
*head explodes*
How well does it work?
So... does it save squirrels incidentally as they use the bridge (or not at all if they avoid it)? Or does the squirrels actually use it and avoid the road below now with some kind of understanding that the road is dangerous?
