Pembroke driver charged with killing elderly Cambridge woman in hit and run
Ashley Monturio, 41, of Pembroke, was arrested tonight for allegedly killing an elderly woman walking across a parking lot in Cambridge and then driving away, Cambridge Police and the Middlesex County District Attorney's office report.
Monturio, behind the wheel of an Infiniti QX 60 SUV, was formally charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing death, officials say, adding she will be arraigned in Cambridge District Court tomorrow.
Romelia Gallardo, 80, of Cambridge, was using a walker at the time she was struck in the parking lot outside her home in a senior-citizen apartment building at 150 Erie St., police say. She was taken to Cambridge Hospital, where she died.
Innocent, etc.

Another homicidal, cowardly
Another homicidal, cowardly Boston area driver. Remember Phocian "people hit and run people all the time" Fitts? He was speeding through a crosswalk in Allston and also killed an elderly person and left them to die in the street. When he was arraigned last month he shouted his plea from behind a door while he hid in the staircase of the courthouse because he is too much of a coward to face his victims. The judge allowed it because drivers are never held fully accountable in these parts. No wonder they feel entitled to break the law and treat the lives of others as meaningless. They are coddled even after they purposefully hit and kill a pedestrian.
I'm very glad they caught the killer, but unfortunately she'll be given a slap on the wrist and will be behind the wheel of a car again soon. Because of this enabling of criminal drivers the killing of pedestrians will continue.
Seek help
Seek help
Wake up
He or she or they are correct. Driving kills. Drivers kill. Time to stop your little gangs of make believe. You need some intervention, not Kinopio.
Yeah Kinopio wants safe streets, what a psycho
Seek empathy.
Really dude
This whole situation is bad enough, please save us the diatribe.
Oh, Kinopio
You and your "against vehicular homicide" agenda, not even considering that the feelings of shitty drivers and their enablers might be hurt
The driver who hit and killed
The driver who hit and killed the womanis not a Boston area driver... she's from Pembroke which is an hour away. Try reading the article before ranting. RIP to the victim.
What state is Pembroke in?
MASSACHUSETTS
This woman's work address is Main St. Cambridge, meaning she drives around here. A lot.
Where someone sleeps isn't the only place that they live.
The wealthy driver is a
The wealthy driver is a SUBURBAN resident who thinks she can speed through the CITY of Cambridge and KILL someone and then LIE about it. Stop watching Fox News and stop blaming all crime on big bad city residents. If you can't drive through Boston and Cambridge responsibly then stay out of the city!
Exactly!
She probably drives more in the Boston area in a given year than I do!
She works in Cambridge, sorry
She works in Cambridge, sorry. Again, please read.
Not mentioned..
She was on her way to a job interview and didn't have time to stop. Also she was the one who called 911 to report the accident. CPD put out a BOLO for her vehicle, registered to her husband, and then she turned herself in. She deserves every bit of time she is about to get (hopefully).
That is so messed up
She called 911 but she didn't stop, even though she was the one that hit the victim.
I don't see this ending well for her, which is probably just, as it ended worse for the victim.
If only it wouldn't end well for her
She'll be fine - in a hurry, wealthy, didn't mean to, crying in court, blah blah blah
She's probably still driving and won't have her license suspended as part of the sentence, either.
Released on her own recognizance
https://twitter.com/rgoulston/status/1038094630921936896. Probably had to promise not to run anyone over on the way out or face some similarly unreasonable demand
That's a damn shame. They
That's a damn shame. They probably did since she turned herself in, but there should've been at least bail set.
Globe reports she is barred
Globe reports she is barred from driving and had to surrender her license. But, I concur that - sadly - she'll be fine due to all the points you brought up.
"I'm so dedicated to this job ...
that I ran over a little old lady in the street just to get here."
Sadly, some places might hire her because of that.
And she appears to be ...
the HR director for a pharmaceutical company.
Not a huge surprise...
Given that every single HR director/manager I have ever met is a raging sociopath.
She killed a person with her car
Nothing much at all will happen to her.
Didn't have time to stop
Did this dimwit really think she was going to get hired after murdering someone with her car?
Didn't have time to stop?
I was in an accident on a way to a job interview and I fucking well had time to stop. No one was hurt in that one, too.
Not an excuse.
If rushing to a job interview is true...
Wanna make a bet she already did NOT win the job, after her job interviewer learned of this news...
Can't hire her now.
It would be bad publicity.
Too bad the story got out - we want someone with that kind of drive.
She was on her way to a job interview and didn't have time
I've got news for you, Flash.
Even if you get the job because of your timeliness, do you think you're going to get to keep it after you kill an old lady with your car and don't stop?
This woman is too dumb to drive...and it showed.
Indeed
That hasn't kept a court of law from suspending her driving licence pending trial.
I doubt that she will even have any time without her license after sentencing.
I guess there is no such thing as a dangerousness hearing for drivers.
Meets deadlines
Can go on her resume for future interviews. This commitment to schedules will tank her career at least for many years, or until search engines disappear. One possibility is Uber that hires ex-cons, like the one who was streaming The Voice on roku while the self-driving car killed a pedestrian in Arazona.
Just so you know
Not that the driver should be streaming while driving, but it was highly unlikely the driver had enough reaction time to prevent that accident. Actually, the car could have prevented it, but the setting for that level of sensitivity had been turned off. Oh, and if the pedestrian hadn't walked in front of the car from a blind spot, it wouldn't have happened either.
she locked down her facebook
real quick. sometime between last night and early this morning.
I had been wondering how that was possible if she was under arrest but no, of course, she gets to walk freely for the moment. Let's hope that doesn't last long.
The prosecutors said she DID stop...
After running over Romelia Gallardo, Ashley Monturio drove around the corner, parked, and then walked back over to Gallardo's body, called 911 to report an injured woman but could not stay because she had a job interview. Monturio then took off just as the police cars were arriving (witnesses seen her do that).
Then she didn't stop
Enabler.
In a parking lot? Is this a
In a parking lot? Is this a common cut-through? And who the hell thinks "I just hit a person with my car, but it's totally fine, I'll leave the scene but I'll call police and deal with it later"?
