The Monk of Forest Hills
By adamg on Fri, 03/06/2009 - 5:07pm
When life gives you lemons, make lemonade, or, in the case of the Arborway overpass by the Forest Hills T stop, when somebody paints over some graffiti, take advantage of that by drawing a head and hands atop the "body" (his left hand is actually on the other side of the pillar). He's been there for several months now, too.

Ugly
Whoever did that should be made to clean it up, not be glamorized or congratulated.
Yes, because the structure
Yes, because the structure appears to have been the epitome of beauty before the face was added.
Doesn't mean that some
Doesn't mean that some random person is entitled to vandalize it.
I figure there are people who have much better ideas for how to use that surface for their own expression, but our society does not work if everyone just does whatever they want to public property.
Didn't say it does
And I recognize that it's vandalism. I just find it much more interesting to look at with the creative addition. 'Tis all.

I like it
I drive by this at least twice a day and I've always liked it. it's better than a blank wall or some random tag.
oh, a criminal?
So this must be that Felonious Monk I'd heard about.
Big Ego
My wife thinks it looks like Jim Infantino of the band Jim's Big Ego.
Yeah, that's JBE!
Swirrly, the kidses, and I were listening to Jim's Big Ego this morning, before reading this comment. Has he moved to JP since the Someday closed?
JBE has a somewhat new album that's well worth a listen: Free.
He's greeting the barbarians
Half the street poles, mailboxes and other objects standing alone are tagged. Windows belonging to Harvest Coop and an antique shop and a bus stop are now etched with tags. Add the body blows delivered by jets flying at 3,000 feet polluting the air with their noise the underground thunder generated by the T. Spice the sensory overload with with vehicles that are boom-boxes on wheels.
Gang bangers are having in shootouts in parking lots. With the chaos that seems to now be the norm I take this fellow to offer a greeting:
Come one come all. This neighborhood is ripe for the picking. Trash it, polluted it, do your best to turn it into a living dump.
your all wrong
as far as graf, that sucks, i live in that area, see it everyday, and wonder.......why cant something BIGGER AND BETTER go over it. its not welcoming shit. barbairians are everywhere, theyre prob. your kids! and you sound like some stuck up i-dont-want-to-try-to-understand other peoples cultures loser. kind of person that think b/c a law is a law, that means it is right and fair huh? alot of you people should take time and reevaluate your views and opinions on what you think is socially accpetible
See it every day?
You must have a photographic memory, because they painted over it a few months ago.
