Boston Restaurant Talk reports Gov. Baker has signed a law that lets restaurants with the proper licenses offer cocktails to go with their meals in this pandemic age (no, of course you can't just get a whiskey sour to go all by itself).
This kind of happens under the guise of beer gardens at events.
Having worked in both high end and neighberhood business event planning and economic I do think the towns and businesses in the destination spots really missed a chance to be creative. I heard they shut down Moody street and made it seating but I can't verify... Imagine going to some of these places and just shutting off side streets for the evening hours. The local business association hires two attendants from the restaurant combined staffs per night and everyone can bring their take out drinks and food to one site with social distancing markers marked off already.
One thing I've learned from this is there is so much wasted space in this world. That empty parking lot from 5pm to 7am for instance... We keep talking liability for businesses related to Covid, why not find ways to grant land owners who work with the community to make their land useful in the off hours liability coverage? I think many places with temporary vacant land would participate if they weren't afraid of being sued.

They needed this a while ago, before they were reopened to the state they are now. Certainly would have helped during all these weeks of lockdown.
But...
...still can't drink in public, right? No NOLA-style go cups?
And no dacqaris to go drive thru's?
What possibly could go wrong with booze to go? My local park bench is already busy with boozebags.
Booze Gardens
Set up some cordoned off areas - close streets, etc. Entry requires a temp check, departure requires a breath check.
Buy from wherever, roam freely.
