Man charged for role in homophobic stomping at Andrew station
Aiyoub Alsallak, 29, was arraigned today on various charges for a Sept. 5 attack on a Red Line platform at Andrew station that left the 56-year-old victim with head injuries, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.
South Boston Municipal Court Judge Judge Paul Treseler set Alsallak's bail at $2,500 on charges of civil-rights violation, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery. However, Alsallak will remain behind bars because Treseler revoked his bail on an unrelated case in Boston Municipal Court, the DA's office says
Assistant District Attorney Kelly Ryan said that at about 8:50 pm on Monday, September 5, the victim and a friend were verbally accosted by Alsallak and another man on the Andrew Station platform. The two shouted homophobic slurs at the victim and his friend. Then one of the suspects pushed the victim and punched him in the face, causing the victim to fall onto the platform and strike the back of his head. The victim momentarily lost consciousness. The suspect also kicked the victim during the attack.
Officers observed a laceration on the victim’s lip and a significant contusion on the back of his head. Police were able to identify Alsallak as the person who punched and kicked the victim by surveillance video.
Transit Police report Alsallak turned himself in. The second man remains at large.
Innocent, etc.

$2500 bail
For hate crime and what’s essentially attempted murder? Dafuq?
You should learn the purpose
You should learn the purpose of bail.
Not OP, but...
...I know the purpose, and I struggle to believe that $2500 ensures that someone will show up in court -- particularly given the seriousness of the charges.
Guy isn't getting bailed out

If your first thought on seeing a story about violent homophobia is to let your inner racist out, go somewhere else. Thanks.
Just checking...
We're still allowed to hate violent homophobes, right?
Just kidding & really just wanted to thank you for bleaching that sort of stuff out of here.
Hate rides the Red Line
Hopefully the Office of the District Attorney and the Transit Police can set aside their feud and work together to prosecute these criminals.
