This would be a very different write up.

What is the implication? How would it be different?

When you remove junkies and their possessions and offer them services, yet your parents are from Connemara, you are an evil old school Boston pol who just came back from throwing rocks at school buses. This is despite you actually being in the program for years and knowing the struggles of an addiction.

When you remove junkies and their possessions and offer them services, yet you went to Harvard and live in Forest Hills after growing up in the Chicago suburban economic equivalent of Lexington, you are assisting in the rehabilitation of these poor, poor addicts.

See the difference?

Your point that the reaction to a similar operation is different for Walsh vs Wu is a good one.

Your claim that Walsh received flack because of the fact that his parents were immigrants/Irish immigrants is literally LOL funny.

There is nothing more pathetic than white men claiming that life is hard for white men. I say this as a white man. You don't get to act like a victim when you go through life on easy mode.

Cars and lack of bike lanes? As a white man, life’s too easy for you so stop complaining.

I wasn't saying that it is "hard for white men". How stupid are you? Go over the handlebars one too many times?

What I am saying that if both Walsh and Wu dropped babies off the Green Monster, the Globe would say Walsh was killing infants. In turn they would say that Wu was helping kids learn to fly.

Same thing just presented differently.

I hope this time works but sweeping Mass and Cass is like buying Walk The Moon's Greatest Hits. It is the same song over and over and it isn't good by any means and it won't go away.

I know your mommy told you that you were special, but ...

You might read the last comment by the city worker involved to see why there are differences between a mayor who ordered a reactionary attack by police forces and one who has taken a more compassionate and longer view of the situation.

And get off this racist victim bullshit. It is very sad. You have no fucking idea how much harder women and minorities have to work to get where they got. No fucking clue. Marty has done nothing but fail up all his damn life.

There are elements that are unhappy with Wu's move. Just look at the debate over the ordinance that will allow for easier removal of such encampments.

You do have a point about the chattering classes. They do seem more inclined to support Wu for doing what Walsh tried to do. I say tried, as Wu has also tried. Perhaps this time will be more successful.

genuinely asking - maybe i’m missing it.

i would think if you’re opposed to the ordinance then you would be opposed to clearing the area.

i have noticed that engagement is muted in comparison to other mass and cass events, here and on reddit anyway. are you all taking this as tacit endorsement?

A kinder, gentler removal, allegedly.

I guess you are implying that Wu is more popular with the Globe editors than Walsh? I'm curious what gives you the impression.

Yeah maybe but they're spread around Roxbury/Southie and South End

But the repeats are getting tedious.

Didn't Wu clear out the Mile last fall?

This is a problem that was created by city government. The centralization of services, the laissez-faire attitude toward the tents and the accompanying criminal activities in and around the encampment all led to this shameful situation. Also, the grossly negative impact on the neighborhood, the businesses there and the people who live nearby. Don't forget Clifford Park.
The only people who deserve any thanks down there are the city workers who physically cleaned up the squalor, law enforcement there to make sure there was no problems and the street workers who deal with the lost souls in the area.
There shouldn't be any back slapping regarding the cleanup down there. If anything, our city leaders should be ashamed of the way this whole thing was handled.
It should never be allowed to happen again anywhere in this city.

Is there any city in the US which is doing a good job managing those addicted to fentanyl? Serious question.

The biggest difference is that in some places the addicts are more distributed. But the harm they cause to themselves and the community is the same.

Would it change anything if people were living out of their cars instead of tents? (Rhetorical question)

I slept in my car in a rest stop, because I thought that was the only place that I could sleep undisturbed. There were others who thought the same thing, as I was not the only one sleeping at the rest stops. It is hard sleeping in your car.

I've been down there cleaning this mess for quite some time now. I hope and think this time will be successful in the long run. The BPD and the mayors office have a great plan in place as the battle has just begun. Phase one was successful and you will not see another tent or encampment in the city as long as wu,s in office. Also this was approached in a much more compassionate and well thought out manner. Please pray for for these addicts don't bash them as they have endured enough pain in their lives. Nobody wants to be an addict we all have a past and not everyone's is pretty. Thanks
