Allston/Brighton city councilor says neighborhood keeps getting screwed in city capital budget and she's getting tired of it

The Harvard Crimson talks to City Councilor Liz Breadon (Allston/Brighton) about the city's proposed budget for capital projects, noting that supposed projects to build a new Jackson-Mann school and community center are still only marked as "to be scheduled" and that the neighborhood is dead last in proposed capital projects, behind even smaller neighborhoods.

And that will come when the time is right at the ballot box. Across the city people are being ignored wholesale while a specific agenda is being pushed through. Even those identifying as progressives are concerned. The current situation is not by the people and for the people but by and for a select few with a select mindset.

Lots of good things but that is not an excuse for wholesale acceptance of everything.

Time will tell.

As to a new Jackson-Mann, the city will no longer share space with another department moving forward. The relationship between BCYF (community centers) and BPS (schools) has been rife with problems. The plan moving forward will be new stand alone community center buildings. The problem with that right now is available land on which to build, or existing buildings worthy of purchase and renovation.

They have been struggling with the need for a Jackson-Mann replacement since Marty was in the corner office.

Liz, you're in Allston/Brighton. You don't need the City for proposed capital projects.
Just get some off the sidewalks at the end of August!

wow. Allston/Brighton house about 10% of Boston's population and receive significantly less than 1% of the city's capital budget. interesting.
I know that Brighton in particular has always been a bit of an outlier, sort of an out of sight out of mind neighborhood, but those numbers are harsh. Maybe it is time to talk about secession? will that get the city hall's attention?
