Anthrax hoaxer also hit Christian Science Monitor

What's Powel got to do with it?

Boston Police report that, in addition to the Herald, the Christian Science Monitor was also targeted by the hoaxer today - police and the city hazmat unit rushed to the paper's 210 Mass. Ave. offices around 3:15 p.m. today. Police say the powder turned out to be sugar and add:

Meantime, in California, the FBI has already taken into custody an individual believed to be responsible for sending the letters. The motive is not known at this time.

Marc Keyser, 66, was arrested today at his Sacramento home. Associated Press reports he sent out a similar mailing last year, but just to one newspaper, allegedly as publicity for a book he'd just finished writing about anthrax-using terrorists.

Isn't Anthrax the name of a band? That's the first thing I'd think of if I saw a CD with the word "Anthrax" printed on it.

;-)

But I'm afraid that I don't have an enquiring mind this morning. Not for that, anyway.

From today's Globe article:

One radio station even thought the mailing came from the rock group Anthrax and tried to play the CD in their music player, he [FBI agent Steve Dupre] said.

TerrorBlog.us. How long before some enterprising reporter discovers it? Took me sheer seconds of searching on the Google, based on the hidden messages in that photo.

Some of the points he makes in the blog make sense, and Im sure thats what the cd has on it as well.

Its too bad he seems like a moron who cant make a website that doesnt look like he made it while wearing a tinfoil hat. That he couldnt fathom that sending something that looks like anthrax could cause a stir (which is even more odd because he even has a section of the blog pertaining to mass terrors effect on the population being more powerful then the attack itself.)

1. Get a sugar packet from your local Starbucks.
2. Put a sticker on the sugar packet that says "NOT SUGAR THIS IS ACTUALLY ANTRAX OK"
3. Make a CD and put your name on it.
4. Send the whole thing back to Starbucks.

GOLLY NOBODY WILL EVER RAISE A FUSS ABOUT THIS!

Trying to make a point is all well and good, but this guy is the living embodiment of that image macro of the kid sticking a knife into an electrical socket. Something tells me he didn't think his cunning plan all the way through.

He did this last year, only with just one newspaper and the FBI picked him up and he said "oops, my bad," and they said "tut tut, don't do it again" and then he did, only this time across the country. So it's not like he didn't know he'd be facing issues, even aside from the whole living in a post-9/11 world yada yada.

He does it on a small scale, gets a finger waggled in his face. So he goes "I guess I can do it again a WHOLE LOT MORE!"

This kind of logic is for cats and toddlers, fercryinoutloud.

Hes a moron all right because while I dont believe him to be a terrorist that is exactly how terrorists work. You test the waters somehow, then when the coast is clear you go in and pull off your operation. For all we know his next move could be to switch from sugar to the real deal...

Channel 4 just opened the story with the claim that the guy was known to the police from something in the past, but forget to tell us what it was. It probably got cut out to make time for happy talk and giggling between anchors and reporters.

I assume they already knew that it was a hoax when they did this?

I guess it didn't have any LEDs on it.

Sugar packet ... cute.

It's a good thing he wasn't gripping that round thing on the left and right sides ...
