One of these days, years, decades, the state promises to do something about Morrissey Boulevard so it doesn't flood when it rains or somebody spills their iced Dunk's. In the meantime, Savin Hill Sailor shows us yesterday's Second Semi-Annual Morrissey Boulevard Challenge, which involved getting across and along Morrissey Boulevard when cars couldn't. Don't worry: The canoe was equipped with a paddle for when the winds die down or the sailor's arms get tired. Video.

State Police report two people died and two more were injured - one critically - in a rollover crash shortly after 3:15 a.m. on Morrissey Boulevard northbound, near the UMass entrance, in Dorchester. Read more.

Morrisey Boulevard Bridge got stuck in the upright position

Looks like upbridge, Will McArthur reported around 5:20 p.m., after the bridge went up for somebody heading to or from the yacht club and then just didn't come down. Read more.

The Dorchester Reporter reports the BPDA board today unanimously approved a plan to turn the Comfort Inn at 900 Morrissey Boulevard into 99 apartments. Under the proposal by Pine Street Inn and The Community Builders, the building would have full-time staff to help residents adjust to their new lives. Read more.

"Morrissey Boulevard" apparently isn't upscale sounding enough for Beacon Capital Partners, the developer behind that new life-sciences complex where the Globe used to be, so they've decided it's now located in "Seaport South:" Read more.

The owners of Southline, the former Globe plant on Morrissey Boulevard turned lab and office space, have filed plans with the BPDA to use part of a former Globe parking lot between the building and the Expressway for a six-story building focused on, naturally, life sciences space, but also with the ability to use space for offices, should the market change. The Boston Licensing Board today gave Puritan Pizza, 735 Morrissey Blvd. in Dorchester, approval to extend its closing time from the current 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Read more.

Bill Walczak makes the case that the state should pay to relocate the Dorchester Yacht Club to move to the Dorchester Bay side of the venerable Bedes Bridge rather than spend all the money it will take to put in a new drawbridge just so people with enough disposable income to buy and maintain a boat can continue to inconvenience motorists.

The Dorchester Reporter reports MassDOT is looking at a new, $122-million bridge to replace the current drawbridge because while the bridge is not yet falling down, falling down, it is crumbling. Any replacement, which could be years away, would be coordinated with state plans to raise Morrissey Boulevard, which now floods on the regular.

MassDOT reports the perennially flooded Morrissey Boulevard was re-opened to traffic around 2:15 p.m., after Dorchester Bay receded back to sea level.

The Dorchester Reporter reports the Lambert family has put its two sites - which includes a 3.6-acre site on Morrissey Boulevard in Dorchester - up for sale.

Eversource reports the lights went out for 855 homes and businesses along Morrissey Boulevard in the Savin Hill/UMass entrance area shortly before 9 p.m. The company says it hopes to have the power flowing again by midnight.

Coast Guard, State Police and Boston fire and police crews began searching Dorchester Bay by Malibu Beach around 4:30 a.m. for a man reported in the water, but eventually called the search off after determining the man was not, in fact, in the water. NBC Boston reports the operator of the Beades drawbridge reported seeing two people apparently jumping into the water, but only one coming out; it turned out that while one man did jump, the other thought better of it at the last second and didn't actually go into the water.

A man who had been released on probation just two weeks ago rather than going to jail for a series of crimes in Fields Corner was back in court today for arraignment on a variety of charges stemming from a car crash at Morrissey Boulevard and Freeport Street yesterday. Read more.

Carjacking crash in Dorchester

State Police report: on an incident in Dorchester this morning:

Trooper in Dorchester just spotted vehicle involved in carjacking several days ago. Suspect driving it today was wearing ski mask and sunglasses. Suspect refused to stop, crashed into 3 other cars & tried to run, but was caught & in custody, Morrissey at Freeport.
