Dean Beckford, 29, of Somerville, was arraigned today on two counts of making a bomb threat for calls that emptied Wheatley Hall at UMass Boston last Thursday and again yesterday, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Beckford's bail was set at $20,000.

According to the DA's office, Beckford's downfall was in using pay phones at the Davis Square Red Line stop and near the Park Street T stop to make his calls:

Touch FM got all the publicity, but federal agents yesterday also shut two other stations - one at 100.1 MHz that broadcast in Haitian creole from studios in Dorchester and another in Brockton.

In a statement, US Attorney Carmen Ortiz said:

It is a public safety hazard for illegal radio stations to broadcast, potentially interfering with critical radio communications.

Paul Weiskel reports he got an alert at 12:47 p.m. to evacuate the Wheately Building and to stay clear of the area until further notice.

Judy Wilburn reports she was listening to the unlicensed Dorchester radio station shortly after 11 a.m. when:

Touch 106.1 just went off the air. Announcer said authorities shutting down, equipment taken.

The FCC and owner Charles Clemons have feuded for years over the station. In 2008, the commission ordered Clemons to pay $17,000 for operating without a license.

Hansborough Street explosion

The house at 27 Hansborough St. exploded around 9:20 p.m., sending twelve people to the hospital - two with serious injuries - the Boston Fire Department reports.

The apparent natural-gas explosion pushed the house off its foundation and led to its partial collapse. The resulting fire went to three alarms.

Residents of surrounding homes were evacuated. National Grid gave the OK to let them return around midnight.

WHDH reports an MBTA inspector is charged with having sex at Ashmont station while on duty yesterday.

The woman whom he was allegedly inspecting in his T vehicle denied she was a prostitute but allowed as how "she needed money for her hair," WHDH reports.

Trying out for Deep Mass.

Eileen Murphy marveled at this dapper would-be don at the auditions for the movie version of Black Mass at the old Bayside Expo Center yesterday.

She adds: "You know it's a Southie movie when a Hollywood hopeful brings a space saver to the casting call for Black Mass!"

Police found a man slashed in the chest around 6:35 p.m. outside 1445 Dorchester Ave. Not long after, a second man was found with a cut hand and a puncture wound to his ear behind the building. Both are expected to survive.

Boston Police report arresting three New Yorkers on charges they passed counterfeit bills on a little shopping spree at the South Bay TJ Maxx on Thursday.

The stun gun, Oxycodone and "two large plastic bags containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana" allegedly found in their car also did little to endear them to the local constabulary.

Police report a clerk at the TJ Maxx store summoned a detail officer around 5:40 p.m. on Thursday to check out what appeared to be a counterfeit bill.

Charles Sammon, 37, of West Pittston, PA., was sentenced to 33 months in federal prison yesterday for a scheme in which he collected fees at closings for triple-decker units in Dorchester, Roxbury and Jamaica Plain involving buyers who then promptly defaulted, the US Attorney's office in Boston reports.
