Felix Arroyo sign in East Boston

A weary citizen in Maverick Square sighs:

I know our vote on the casino didn't matter but I thought the election for mayor was settled? Can we get these taken down?

Ed. note: Over the past few weeks, Citizens Connect has gotten a scattering of complaints about another candidate with green signs, but the city always marks the cases closed because the signs are on private property.

East Boston needs trash cans

Tina Kelly reports that kindergarteners at one East Boston school were asked to draw "what you want Boston to have more of." And one girl drew "Not playgrounds, trash cans." So, yeah, maybe East Boston has a trash problem.

Sure, neither the Mohegan Sun nor the Wynn sites are actually in Boston, but they're right on the line and neither could survive without Boston's transportation and world-classness, so the mayor wants the state gaming commission to give Boston the same sort of "host community" status Revere and Everett have, the Globe reports.

Brian D'Amico reports that around 10:20 p.m. at 118 Brooks St. and again about an hour later on Curtis Street, somebody inside a green Accord fired paintballs out the window.

In between, there was a third drive-by paintballing on Curtis Street.

D'Amico reports there were similar incidents in Chelsea around the same time as well.

First Emirates Airline flight arrives in Boston

Commercial jets arriving at Logan don't usually get greeted by three helicopters and a smaller plane flying a banner, but Logan allowed an exception for the first Emirates Airline flight into Boston this afternoon.

That's the airline that redecorated the inside of Red Line trains in red.

After the plane landed and dried off and taxied a bit more, the pilot whipped out a Massachusetts flag for the occasion, as Dan Santry shows us:

State officials say the Callahan Tunnel should open round about 5 a.m. Monday morning, which will begin to restore karma to Boston traffic and eventually end those mysterious clumps of state troopers along Rte. 16.

However, late-night drivers can expect some delays elsewhere along I-93 for the rest of the week as MassDOT gets the mighty highway back into fighting form:

Most notably, the effort requires the closure of Exit 24/Gov’t Center on I-93 Southbound on Sunday night into Monday morning and the complete closure of I-93 Southbound through Boston overnight Tuesday into Wednesday.

The group restoring the Nantucket Lightship says it doubts it will let Harbor Arts string a "sail" between the ship's towers that could be set to broadcast illuminated displays of art across the harbor, and really wishes the whole idea had never been made public to begin with.

In e-mail today, the U.S. Lightship Museum says:

Boston Police report officers fresh footprints in the snow early this morning led officers to two East Boston teens they say had just robbed a man by putting a knife to his back at Bennington and Marion streets.

Police say Thomas Hernandez Leyva, 16, and German Mejia Salmeron, 19, are also suspects in two other armed holdups in the area in the two hours before their arrests, and that both were found with their booty from those stickups.

He is wearing a LoJack SafetyNet tracking bracelet and we are doing our best to find him.

Hawaiian Punch as space saver in East Boston

Blythe the roving UHub photographer marvels at the Hawaiian Punch bottle being used to save a (completely unplowed) space in her neck of the East Boston woods today. Throw in some frozen Snickers bars and you've got a party.

Interesting photo that shows what happens when a vengeful neighbor slashes your tires for daring to park in "their" space and then the local meter maid decides to issue you a steady stream of tickets. Brought to you by the neighborhood of East Boston.

A fed-up citizen reports that not only did city action fail to dislodge space savers in the area of Sumner and Maverick streets in East Boston, they are multiplying, several days after the last snow emergency ended and people were, you know, supposed to stop saving spaces:

I counted 15 savers across three blocks of Sumner alone after this case was closed. Please address and do not close without adequately resolving.

Note: Complaints about space pigs are also flooding in from JP, Dorchester and, of course, South Boston. Especially South Boston.
