On taking wives out to dinner

Kevin McCrea notes Chuck Turner's alleged sloppiness in collecting money (that affidavit suggests he had several opportunities to get money but kept losing the guy's phone number), wonders if his alleged sin is really so different from other things going on in Boston:

... But, is it more wrong than Michael Flaherty actively working for a lawfirm that handles zoning matters in the City of Boston while he sits on the Boston City Council? Is it more wrong than Boston Mayor Tom Menino putting a level 4 Biolab in the heart of Boston? Menino has taken thousands of campaign funds over the years from Walsh Construction and their associates and family, and has received much help from the BU people who are going to profit from this. He has surely been able to legally "take his wife to dinner" more than once on those thousands of contributed funds and call it a campaign expense. Was there Quid Pro Quo there, which could put tens of thousands of people at risk for their lives? ...

The difference my friend is one set of actions is legal and open to the public, the other is illegal and not open to the public. Im willing to admit that taking bribes and taking campaign contributions can often lead to the same ends, and thats why I am a fan of campaign finance reform, also knowing it will never happen. At the very least though we can find out who gave Menino money, when, and how he spent it. If the public were so inclined to look into it and take action, ie not vote for him again, they are more then welcome to. Bribes on the other hand are secret, thereby taking the power of choice out of the hands of the voters. Its a pretty big difference.

It looks like something other than sloppiness to me. Maybe a quest for economic justice?

to answer: "Why the hell are the feds investigating this stuff?"

- the Feds are involved because Chuck has been on the frontline against the Biolab/level 4, a federal military project.

... For more info and a very good analysis of the history of the biolab thing with some of Chuck Turner's involvement, see:

Plus, it gives Menino and the old boy network somebody to tar going into his mayoral race in the year coming up- it makes him look good, when everyone knows he is owned by the BRA and runaway development in this city at the expense of the neighborhood and the many neighborhood associations.

See:
www.abnboston.org

and type BRA in the search engine to learn every way the BRA bends, breaks and creates the laws in this city for developers against the interests of citizens.

--- so, is Chuck Turner guilty? Who knows? Maybe. Everybody else sure the hell is, but he's the one that got arrested. Makes you think.
